Introduction
What is k12datamine?
k12datamine is a personalized collection of student data. It is a web-based program that organizes data
such as achievement and behavior information, learning history, test results, and much, much more! All of
this right at your fingertips.
What can k12datamine do for you?
Parents…
Provides school information at your fingertips.
Connects your family to the school.
Encourages goal setting.
Here is what you can access: o Daily Attendance o Daily Discipline o ISTEP Scores o NWEA Scores o SAT & ACT Scores o Student Schedule o Progress Reports and grades o Emergency data

Assists with personalizing and differentiating instruction.

Fosters better awareness of strengths, needs and learning preferences.

How does this impact learning?
Parents are able to monitor state test results, achievement, behavior, and weekly classroom performance
and learning. This information should be a source for parent—student communication and parent—
teacher communication. Having student information easily accessible will promote better awareness of
student strengths, needs and interests.

General Navigation Strategies for k12datamine Close the active window by clicking “Close This Window”.
While you are navigating through k12datamine, you can always get back to your “Home Screen”
by clicking on “Selection / Search”
Never use the “BACK” button in Internet Explorer
Many pages may be closed by clicking the “X”
The Teacher View - Accessing the K12datamine
To access the K12datamine, type the following into the address bar of your Internet Explorer
https://merrillville.k12datamine.com Remember: type https and not just http!
When the log in
screen opens, type
your username and
password. These will
be given to you by
the k12datamine
Facilitator.
Your username is not
case sensitive.
However your
password must be
entered in ALL
CAPITAL
LETTERS.
Click Login.

Your class page opens with names and pictures (if available) for each student.
To switch another class (MIS, CPMS, MHS), click the down arrow next to Class Search.
Select a different class. The page will refresh with the new class.

Attendance To get a snapshot of this class’s attendance, click the attendance button.
Students with the best attendance are
listed first with no color background.
Those with a higher incidence of
absences are coded yellow and red, with
red being the highest incidence.
Float the cursor over a student’s picture
to see the count of absences.
Power Hint: To see the detail of the Attendance sorting,
click on any of the student pictures. You will see the screen
shot called “Trends” below: Note: This screen shot below is the same screen that the parents see
when they access their child’s information from home. To see the attendance detail click on the
number under the attendance column.
You will then see the following detail on attendance for this child: Navigation Hint: Click on “Close This
Window” to return to the “Trends” screen below.
To return to your home screen showing all the students in your class click on Selection/Search.

Discipline
To get a quick snapshot of this class’s discipline record, click the Discipline button.
Once again incidences are color coded,
with no color background as no
discipline and red backgrounds with
one or more discipline incidents.
Float the cursor over the student’s
picture to get specific information.
Power Hint Reminder: To see the detail of the
Discipline sorting, click on any of the student pictures.
You will see the screen shot called “Trends” below: To
see the discipline detail click on the number under the
discipline column.
You will see the detailed discipline of this student as shown in the screen shot below. Remember, click
on “Close This Window” to return to the “Trends” screen.
Once you are back at the “Trends” screen, click on “Selection / Search to return to your home screen

ISTEP Scores
To see how this class did on ISTEP, click on one the ISTEP subtests button to sort by
the subtest.
The page will refresh, but this time
students are color coded.
Students with a green background,
passed. Those in with red
backgrounds did not.
Float your cursor over a student’s
picture to see what his/her ISTEP
score was.
If you click on any of the students, you will go to a graph of their performance on ISTEP.
Click on Selection / Search to return to your home screen.
Note: Click on the measure: “Standards – IPI” to see the subtests

NWEA Scores To view how students did on NWEA, click the NWEA button.
When the page refreshes, you can select any of the subtests to sort your class from
high to low.
Click on a student picture to see a graph of their performance and you will see a graph
similar to below.
Click on Selection / Search to return to your home screen.

At any time you can click on a student’s picture to see their contact and other information.
If you wish to see this information for all of the students in the class, click the Class button.
You can also view the above
page by clicking
Demographics on the menu
bar.

The Teacher Menu Bar
Since we’re talking about the menu bar, let’s look at the rest of the features.
Trends
If you click Trends, you will see the same information as the parents see when they login in from home.
It is important that you are familiar with the information the parents see. Click on any of the icons or
numbers under the column headings to see the detail. Please note: The icon under Daily Grades will link
to your Pinnacle grade book.

Assessments
Click Assessments to see graphed information for ISTEP, NWEA and other scores for each student in the
class.
You can select specific subject areas to view.
You can also view by student name, ID or
alternate ID.

Services
Click on the Services button to see a snapshot of student health, language assistance, special education
and gifted status of this class.

Reporting If you click the Reporting button, you will get comprehensive data on your entire class, including
attendance and discipline numbers for the current and past years.
Click the down arrow
next to the Side
By Side Report. Select
Report Card
Comparison subjects.
The resultant table can show ISTEP
results next to actual student grades in
the specific area.

Click IPI Instructional Needs Report, and you will generate the report on the next page.
You can export this data to Word
or Excel..
CA Entry
This section will allow a teacher to enter their self-created assessment
scores or a building level assessment, such as SSP scores. At the present
time, there is no active data in CA Entry.

Accessing Parent and Student Usernames and Passwords
In the event that a student or parent forgets their username or password, you can easily access that
information from the main main. Click Services on the menu bar.
When the next page opens, click on My Class.
The next page will
display the parent and
student usernames and
passwords.

the one-stop-shopping site for staff, parents and students with a special link for staff to
get specialized training materials.

How do I get an Account? Parents must submit a registration form. Teachers
and students will be provided their own password.
How to use the k12datamine? A list of training materials which includes the

Parents and last but not least is a link to training materials at the Resources for

When accessing the Resources for Merrillville School Staff site, you will need to
supply the username: mcsc\(your username) and your network password. Note: this is
your usual MCSC username and password. Not, your specially assigned username
and password for k12datamine.
