Examples from Sweden

Procurement policy

X:s municipals objective is to minimize the environmental

impact. Therefore, the municipality in all procurements will

prioritize and require goods, services and works with as little

environmental impact as possible.

Example overall targets The policy means that the municipality must:

• Prioritize and buy goods and services that minimize

environmental/sustainability impact.

• ie consider:

• social / ethical aspects

• animal welfare in food procurements

• recycling aspects

• chemical toxicity

• LCA

• LCC

• innovative solutions

Example detailed targets

• 50% of procured food (often specified) are organic

• All relevant suppliers have an implemented EMS (EMAS, ISO

14001)

• The municipality will to 2020 completely stop procure products or

services containing chemicals under REACH Annex XIV and XVII

that require permits or are restricted.
