The President’s Report Whatanexciting time forNationalDairyShrine! The Executive Committeemet a couple months ago inFt.AtkinsonattheMuseum.Itismypersonalfavoriteplaceto meet. I lose track of timelookingat cowsof allbreeds, and sorting out which one’sgenetics have stood the testof time. On top of that, it isalways a learning experiencewhen I review our previous award winnersfromallaspectsofourdairyindustry. At the time of the meeting, Dr. DaveSelner, our Executive Director, was allabout getting measurements correct andenergy-saving light fixtures installed whiledirectingthewholenewdesignandmuseumrenovations. Now the museum renovationsarereadyforyourviewing.PlantomakethatstoponyourExpotripthisyear.Ifyou’vebeenthere before, you will see vastly improveddisplays and a museum more in tune withthe way young people learn in 2014. Davehasdevotedincredibletime, energy, patienceand skill to this project, not to mentionhandling the financial aspect. Thanks anddeepestappreciationtoDr.DavidSelnerforoverseeing this project, and to both DavidandformerNDSpresidentCoreyGeigerfortheirvisionandbelief that it couldhappen.
Whatajourney.Speaking of the ExecutiveCommittee meeting, wehad an interesting sessionwith Mary Creek (producer,Md.) and Tommy Martin(Industry, Fl) during ourmeeting.Bothhavereceivedmultiple awards for annualmembership recruitmentand were asked to sharesome of their approaches to
recruitingnewmemberships.Althoughwereceive important, significant sponsorships, donations and endowments, membershipincomeremainsourmainstay.

• Solicit co-workers in the dairy industry. For dairy producers, substitute“neighboringproducers”for“co-workers.”
• Tommy found he could, in some cases, provide a membership and submit it tothecompanyinhispromotionbudget.
Youcaneachadd to this list. With thefavorable milk price and reasonable feedcost, now should be the perfect time toincreasemembership.
