pattern pieces & fabric The pattern requires 18 Sugar Baby blocks in the sizes and directions listed below. These blocks are labeled 1-18 in the placement layout guide on the following page.
• Four 8” right facing (blocks 2, 4, 5 & 9)
• Four 8” left facing (blocks 10, 13, 14 & 16)
• Five 6” right facing (blocks 1, 3, 7, 8, 12)
• Five 6” left facing (blocks 6, 11, 15, 17, 18)
The Sugar Baby block pattern is not included in this fi le and needs to be downloaded separately from the Free Patterns & Tutorials section of my website.
Fabric requirements for the hummingbird bodies will vary depending on fabric selections and use, but these blocks are perfect for scraps! I recommend 1.5 to 2 yards background fabric for the Sugar Baby blocks depending on how precise you are with your cutting and paper piecing.
Cutting directions for the remaining background blocks and assembly instructions can be found on the following page. You will need approximately 3.5 yards of fabric for these blocks. You may need more if using directional fabric or fussy cutting.
This pattern uses my free Sugar Baby foundation paper pieced pattern block in two sizes to create a whimsical throw sized quilt.
You can fi nd the Sugar Baby block in the Free Patterns & Tutorials section of lillyella.com. The Sugar Baby Block is for the advanced
beginner with some foundation paper piecing experience. Please read through the entire pattern before beginning.
