and take anAppreciative Advising Approach

Embed Intrusive Processes

• Build structures that incorporate intervention strategies;

• Mandating advising contacts for students who otherwise might not seek advising;

• Begin building relationships on Day 1;

• Be proactive; reach out early in the semester;

• Utilize Aviso Coaching software to reach most at-risk students and document;

• Be prepared for advising/coaching appointments.

• Personalized, proactive student coaching service for college students, increased rates of staying in and graduating from college.

• Seven lotteries that were well-executed - the study found that students assigned to receive coaching were significantly more likely than students in the comparison group to remain enrolled at their institutions 6, 12, and 18 months after random assignment.

• For longer-term follow-up data, there was no significant difference between the groups in enrollment 24 months

• Focus on Proactive Coaching during the Connection and Entry Phases—in Target Programs—First Year Experience!
