Softbox, and beauty dish are some of the lights that are used as key lights

The fill lights are used for erasing shadows produced by the key lights. They are usually placed on either side of the subject. They are also set above the head of the subject. Umbrella and other similar kind of soft light sources are used the purpose

Background Lights

This type of light is used for lighting up the background. The lights used for this effect is usually dimmer than key lights

It is important that the subject and the background are separated from each other. This makes the subject prominent as well as retains the significance of the photography backdrop. Accent lights are used for this purpose.

Additionally, position of beauty dish, softbox or any other lighting tools are decided on the kind of effect you want to create.
