BULLYING HURTS EVERYONE!!!

BULLYING HAS SEVERAL NAMES

• HARASSMENT

• HAZING

• MEAN GIRLS/BOYS

• CYBERBULLYING

• SPREADING RUMORS

• THREATS

• MEAN-MUGGING

• INSENSITIVE

• INTOLERANT

• INTIMIDATION

NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL

IT, BULLYING IS WRONG!!!

A STUDENT IS A BULLY WHEN HE/SHE

INTENTIONALLY TRIES TO HURT

ANOTHER STUDENT BY:

• HITTING, SHOVING, ATTACKS

• UNWANTED TEASING, NAME-CALLING, THREATS, INTIMIDATION

• HARASSMENT MOTIVATED BY RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, GENDER, GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, PHYSICIAL OR MENTAL ABILITY/DISABILITY, ETC.

A STUDENT IS A BULLY WHEN HE/SHE

INTENTIONALLY TRIES TO HURT

ANOTHER STUDENT BY:

• DESTROYING PROPERTY

• THEFT ASSOCIATED WITH BULLYING

• PUBLIC HUMILIATION

• SOCIAL ISOLATION

• EXTORTION, MANIPULATION, INCITEMENT AND/OR COERCION

• SPREADING RUMORS

• STALKING

CYBERBULLYING • Sending/Writing/Posting threatening and/or

hurtful messages via text messaging or on

Facebook, MySpace, etc.

• Sending/Posting inappropriate pictures/videos.

• Sending or posting cruel gossip or rumors

about a person to damage his or her reputation

or friendships.

• Intentionally excluding someone from an online

group, like a “buddy list” or a game.

CYBERBULLYING • Breaking into someone’s account, posing as

that person and sending messages to make the person look bad, get that person in trouble or danger, or damage that person's reputation or friendships.

• Sharing someone’s secrets or embarrassing information online. Tricking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information, which is then shared online.

• Online fights using electronic messages with angry and vulgar language.

• Intentionally posting provocative messages about sensitive subjects to create conflict.

CYBERBULLYING IS HURTFUL

AND MAY ALSO BE CRIMINAL

TIP: DON’T PARTICIPATE IN IT; DON’T

ENCOURAGE IT; DON’T DO IT!!!

THERE IS A DISTRICT POLICY

AGAINST BULLYING

• Everyone is expected to

report bullying.

• All reports will be taken

seriously and immediately

investigated.

• Students who bully will

receive consequences.

• Three (3) acts of bullying

will result in that student

being sent to an alternative

school.

IF YOU ARE BEING BULLIED:

• TELL SOMEONE AT THE SCHOOL AND YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN.

• IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN GO TO YOUR PRINCIPAL. IF NEEDED, YOU CAN THEN GO TO THE AREA ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT.

• DON’T PARTICIPATE IN ANY UNWELCOME ONLINE DISCUSSION. SAVE/PRINT ANY EVIDENCE AND TELL YOUR PARENT.

• DON’T RETALIATE IN ANY WAY. LET THE ADULTS HANDLE IT.

• DON’T BULLY OTHERS AS A REACTION TO HOW YOU ARE BEING TREATED.

IF YOU WITNESS BULLYING:

• DON’T PARTICIPATE OR ENCOURAGE

THE BEHAVIOR.

• TELL A SCHOOL EMPLOYEE.

• IF NOTHING IS DONE, SPEAK TO THE

PRINCIPAL, THEN THE AREA

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT.

• SUPPORT THE VICTIM OF BULLYING

(BEFRIEND, COUNSEL, ETC.)

BULLYING IS NOT JUST A FUN THING TO

DO TO FEEL POWERFUL. IT HURTS THE

VICTIM AND THE BULLY FOR A LONG

TIME. NO ONE WINS WITH BULLYING!!!

HOW CAN I END BULLYING?

• If you are a bully, STOP

DOING IT NOW!!!

• Don’t keep secrets –

TELL SOMEONE!!!

• Talk with your school

about doing activities

or forming a club.

• Help someone who is

being bullied.
