CosPA-4Collaboration with Canada/France/Hawaii Telescope Corp.
CFHT has been the most successful large optical telescope, situating on the best site on Mauna Kea – we need CFHT/MegCam or CHFT/WIRCam to do AMiBA follow-up surveys.
Through CosPA-4, we have acquired 68 CFHT nights (in a six year period, 2003-2007) at our disposal - Agreement signed between NTU/CosPA & CFHT in 7/2001 。
We are sending people to actively participate the construction of the WIRCam.
CosPA’s overall scientific objectives sit amazingly well on top of this important report.
Currently, there are many other projects around the world, with a scale similar to our CosPA project.Center for Cosmology, U. Chicago; Caltech; Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology, Stanford U.; Research Center for the Early Universe (RESCEU), U. Tokyo; etc.

SLAC – CosPA MoU Introduction
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between National Taiwan University Center for Academic Excellence on Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics (CosPA) and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is a collaborative agreement between scientists of the two institutions.

Statement of Work The collaborating institutions agree to work on subjects of comm
on interest, exchange information, develop theories, experiments and equipment of value to their mutual interests in subjects of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology.
Examples of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology Research might include but not be limited to CosPA’s phase-in active participation of the GLAST project.
Collaborations between the two institutions on laboratory astrophysics experiments as well as the development (with additional institutions) of a dedicated Laboratory Astrophysics facility at SLAC using high energy, high intensity particle and photon beams.
Other projects might include joint sponsorship of symposia and workshops on Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics, and mutual visits of scholars at all levels.

Significance & Expected Outcome:We wish to come up with an adaptive and well-tested beam profile monitor based on the OTR method.Provided that we could test different fabricated foils in our BPM/OTR setting, it could help to strengthen our understanding of the OTR properties of these materials and it could also help us in selecting a better OTR foil in the next round of our efforts to improve the BPM/OTR technique.
The Need for Using SRRC Electron Beams:The 1.5 GeV electron beam at SRRC, before being injected into the storage ring, is the only “high-energy” electron beam available in Taiwan.Without the possibility of using the SRRC electron beam as our laboratory at home, any new instruments for the beam manipulations cannot be sufficiently tested and further improved and it would be less possible for us to launch a successful laboratory astrophysics program.
We just had one solid week at our disposal to test BPM.
The Proposed Schedule:We hope that there will be electron beam times which we could employ regularly from November 2003 till July 2004 so that(1) We could experiment with foils of different
materials in order to explore the OTR physics quantitatively.(2) We would like to improve the BPM design accordingly so that a best BPM/OTR could be the final product.(3) We could use our BPM/OTR system in its final version as a tool to manipulate the SRRC beam.

Prospects
With your support (especially from my old friend Pisin), we plan to make Lab Astro an important part of CosPA & IoAp/NTU.
We wish to become an important, integral, and eventually indispensable partner in the entire FLASH collaboration.
Through the Lab Astro program, we wish to train our young talents as the future breed of laboratory astrophysicists.
