Stained Glass Art
Artist use the Elements of
Art, shape, space, line and
color to create their designs.
Stained glass is made when artist put pieces of
colorful glass between metal strips to create a
work of art.
When light passes through the stained glass, it
casts dazzling color in the room. For centuries,
artists have used stained glass to create the
beautiful windows in great churches in Europe. Rose Window of Chartres Cathedral

Artists in more recent
times have used
stained glass to not
only, make beautiful
windows, but lamps
and other decorative
objects.

Design your Own Stained Glass Window In the window frame below, design your own nature inspired stained glass window. Use large shapes and
lines to create your nature scene like the artists’ examples. Use lines to divide the remaining space. Be sure
not to include too many small details in your work. When complete, use a black marker, colored pencil,
or a crayon to outline each section of your design. Complete your work by coloring in each section with
crayons, markers, colored pencils, or paint. How did you plan your work? How did you use the Elements of
Art in your work? What do you like about your work? What would you change? Why?
Try this.. Using water based markers like Crayola or Rose Art, draw your design on a window at
home. Hold a piece of paper up to the window to see your design shine on to your paper.
Make sure you ask for permission first!
