Information Security (IS)

Two Factor Authentication

(2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is an important component in

Information Security. 2FA adds an additional layer of security

protection to the authentication process by making it harder for

attackers to gain access to a person's online account.

To enhance the protection of staff and students’ personal data and

tighten the information security of the University, Lingnan University

has implemented the 2FA solution.

Please watch this video for understanding what is 2FA:

Why 2FA? [Video]

49

How 2FA works

An additional authentication process in addition to your existing

username and password login to ensure no third party, but yourself

only can access the critical services

A personal iOS/Android device required

By pairing the device with a 2FA mobile app, it will allow you to receive

push notifications for easy, one-tap authentication

Prior registration required

Please watch the video guide for the registration process:

Registration and Use of 2FA. [Video]

50

Four Ws of 2FA

Why?

To enhance the protection of staff and student’s account

Protect from Cyber Attacks and identity stolen

Who?

All staff and students

When?

Registration during activating your Lingnan account

Where

When accessing critical services in hostels (wired connection) or outside

campus

e.g. myLingnan Portal, Webmail, Virtual Private Network (VPN)
