HADITH OF THE WEEK

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

RAY L. GOODMAN

his quota to the development of the institution.

Prof. Shehu, however, stated that his appointment as DVC Administration is a challenge and not a thing of joy. He added that he would

only celebrate it at the end of his tenure in office. “When you are given an appointment, you are being called to serve, it is only at the end when you have been able to make your own modest contribution that you can

then invite your family and friends to rejoice with you”, he said. He, therefore, advised the entire staff to contribute to the development of the school. Sahih Bukhari Vol 1 - Bk. 3: Knowlegde

The world is a vehicle for you. if you drive it , i t wi l l de l iver you to your dest inat ion. If it drives you, you will be destroyed. ...Hasan Al-Basri

AL-HIKMAH UNIVERSITY APPOINTS DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR ADMINISTRATIVE

I have always wondered what youths derive from taking harmful drugs in spite of the warnings from

government agencies and medical professionals. The rate of drug abuse is still high and based on research, the health implication of drug abuse is greater than the pleasure derived from it. Drug users know the negative effects of drug abuse and they still abuse different drugs. Majority of youths today consume different types of harmful substance: alcohol, cannabis, refnol, tramadol, codeine, etc. In spite of the government effort to curb this

menace, it just keeps growing on a daily bas is . Recent ly, the Niger ian government intercepted tramadol tablets worth millions of naira (Source:

thThe Guardian Newspaper Editorial, 30 December 2018).

Most of the youths today think that if one neither drinks nor smokes, one is not social and that is why some youths are easily influenced by friends, peers or colleagues.

Drug abuse short term effect is bad and the long time effect is worse. Please, before you damage that liver and kidney, think of the people that need transplant and can't afford it. If still, you are in doubt, visit rehabilitation centers especially the ones in the northern part of Nigeria (Source:YouTube Video by

th bounce.ng posted on 31 July 2018). I am sure you would have a rethink before gulping another bottle of codeine or take another tablet of tramadol or refnol.

Many youths today can mix different liquor/substances more than professional bartenders. I wish such dedication and passion can be channeled to their education or to small scale businesses, which is capable of developing our country. The rate at which drug abuse keeps growing is becoming alarming. Hence, parents, academic institutions, religious bodies and other stakeholders in children upbringing have a lot to do to curb this menace.

CAST YOUR VOTE WISELY - PROF. K.K. OLOSO

1.68: Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: The Prophet used to take care of us in preaching by selecting a suitable time, so that we might notget bored. (He abstained from pestering us with sermons and knowledge all the time).
