From the Principal, Welcome to Week 10 and the final week of Term 3. What an amazing and successful week we have
all shared with the musical “The Peace Child.’ I am so proud of everyone involved in the planning and
production of the musical. Although a truly ‘whole school’ effort was required to produce something of
this quality, some special notes of thanks and recognition must be given. A special note of thanks
goes to Miss McGann who as Director coordinated a focused whole school approach to create the
amazing product enjoyed by over 1000 people over three days. The musical talent of Choir Master
Mrs Dunn and Musical Director Mrs Brice created an atmosphere of wonder and joy. The choir was
directed beautifully. Each member of the choir should feel justly proud of their efforts. A special note
of gratitude must also go to Mr Dunn and his sons, Eugene and Gabe who added their expertise to
the production’s musical score. Our colleague from St John’s College, Mr Barnes, gave hours of his
own time to organize the sound system and lighting. Thank you Mr Barnes. Mr Foley and Mr Quade
did an outstanding job preparing the set and running the entire sound system. To the amazing lead
cast, your talent is simply inspiring. Our P&F President, Tracy Duncan, did an outstanding and time
consuming job coordinating the ticketing alongside Mrs Green. Every class, student and teacher
should also feel very proud of their efforts with their singing and for the colorful murals that added so
much to the visuals. The audience response was overwhelming and I received many emails of praise
for the students. An example of these emails is: “Thought a quick email was in order to congratulate
all students and staff for a fantastic, entertaining musical. The logistics of this musical were
impressive! Well done to all involved. The narrators were brilliant and a great example to younger
students. As Mr O’Leary said "our future is in good hands". The memories generated from the musical
will last a lifetime and for our first school musical it has been a success.
Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) our next P&F meeting will take place. These meetings are always a
productive time and you will feel most welcome. The meeting commences at 7:00pm.
On Thursday, the students are allowed to wear their sports uniform as they continue to improve their
fitness and team building with the iKiFiT program. All parents will be invited to the iKi Live concert
early in Term 4.
We will be holding a special event on Friday, the last day of Term. Our students
will be having a mini ‘Relay for Life’ walk to support the Cancer Council . Cancer
has affected so many of our families. As you read this my own nephew, Ryan, is
fighting cancer in Melbourne. Although only 12 months old, his bravery is an
inspiration to me. Our students are asked to bring a gold coin to make a donation for the cause. The
students are encouraged to wear something purple as the day will be out of uniform. The students are
also allowed to bring a photo of a loved one to carry with them as we ‘Walk for Life’ around our ovals.
If parents would like to join their children, the ‘walk for life’ will take place after
recess at 11:30am. Please feel very welcome to come to school during recess and
have morning tea with your children.
I wish all of our families a happy and safe holiday. If you are driving please take care
and have plenty of breaks. Students and teachers
return on Monday 8th of October.
God Bless,
Anthony O’Leary

Religious Education News
For Your Diary: Mufti-day for Relay for Life: Friday 21st September Sacrament of Reconciliation Preparation Program: Weeks 1, 2 and 3 of Term 4 Reconciliation Reflection Evening: Tuesday 30th October Sacrament of Reconciliation: 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th of November 6.30pm Reconciliation Our Parent Information Night last Thursday was well attended and gave parents an under-standing of the importance of the sacrament of Reconciliation in the Catholic Church. Many of our Year 2 students attended the weekend Masses to enrol in our Parish Reconciliation Pro-gram which commences at the start of Term 4. Reconciliation is one of the seven sacraments of the Church and consists of the confession of sin to a priest, expression of sorrow for having offended God and neighbour, and the priest’s proposal of an act of penance and prayer of absolution.
The Church has always taught that Christ’s death and resurrection brought reconciliation between God and humanity and that “the Lord entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to the Church”, which exercises it through baptism, and also through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Parables While students prepare for Reconciliation they will continue to explore the many parables we find in the bible. Parables are stories based on everyday life that teach a particular truth. There are three different types of parables:
short sayings, for example ‘You are like light for the whole world’ Matthew 5:14
longer sayings, for example ‘No one uses a piece of new cloth to patch up an old coat, because the new patch will shrink and tear off some of the old cloth, making an even bigger hole’ Mark 2:21
complete stories, for example, the man sowing corn Luke 8: 4-8 ‘Relay for Life’ Mufti-day
To add support to this important up-coming community event, we are going to have a non-uniform day this Friday for a gold-coin donation. Children are encouraged to wear something purple if they can.
To finish the term, thank you for the positive feedback about our new ‘Conversations with Kindies’ newsletter segment. It’s appreciated! Wishing everyone a good week, and all our students a great break! David Schwager (Religious Education Coordinator)
