WELCOME TO THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES OF
Deacon Steve Tabor Phone: 503.769.8089
‘’The Vocation of Abraham and The Vocation of the Christian’’ On this second Sunday of Lent we will see how the life of a Christian could be compared to a journey to be taken in the company of the Master. Abraham was the first man to start off on this journey in answer to a call from God (first reading). Like him every catechumen is invited to leave his/her ‘’country’’. The Gospel shows us only the light that the catechumen must follow during his/her journey. The second reading calls upon the disciples not to get discouraged because of difficulties which they will encounter along their path. Lent has only just begun and the catechumen is invited to open his/her ears to listen to what the Master is about to tell us. It is particularly during this liturgical period that Jesus will show the way that every disciple should follow. The disciples must listen to him and give up their lives for their brothers and sisters as he did. Has also to remember before the call, he/she used to listen to many people. Some were leading him/her towards good, while others were driving him/her towards evil, selfishness, immoral acts, drunkenness or drugs and so forth. Led by the word of God, as Israel was led and enlightened by the law and the prophets (Moses and Elijah), he/she has now finally met Christ. All other lights for him/her are now turned off, the only light left in his/her life is the light of Jesus!
