Principal’s Message
Dear Bronco Parents and Guardians,
On Monday, Jan. 7, we will welcome back
our students for another successful
semester. I do hope everyone had a great
holiday season, and I
wish everyone a happy
and healthy new year.
As we progress into
the winter months,
please help us in our
quest to remind
students to be safe in all weather
conditions they may encounter. Using
extra caution during slick road
conditions, observing appropriate speed
limits and refraining from cell phone use
or texting while driving are issues we
discuss with students. Just as you do, we
want all of our students to be safe.
I thank you for the continued support you
give to our school and our kids. I look
forward to seeing you at all our many
activities and especially at parent-
teacher conferences in February.

The Shooting Stars Program pro-
motes the positive impact arts
education has on our students by
honoring student achievement in the literary, performing and

mer ACJC chairman Bob Endres,” said Sarah VanLanduyt,

Variety Show Shenanigans
The Theatre Department had a very successful and fun Vari-
ety Show on Dec. 6. The Variety Show event is a school-
wide talent show that gives an opportunity to every student
and staff member in the school to showcase their tal-
ents. The event also acts as a fundraiser for the theatre de-
partment. This year, 13 unique acts performed including
singing, a jazz ensemble, a mime routine, improv scenes,
Rubik's Cube feats, and a performance from the Fine (arts)
Four + 1 (pictured below). Thank you to the great
students, staff, and audience members who
took part in and
supported this
fun night.
StuCo News by Laura Denson, Reporter
This December was a busy one full of candy cane sales,
winter wishes, a door decorating contest, and our Cram
with Cocoa event. Students were able to buy candy canes
and write notes to fellow classmates to help encourage
them before the stressful finals week, bringing smiles to
the faces of many Broncos this year.
Winter wishing is our way of playing Santa! StuCo sent
out surveys to the student body asking for wishes that
students would like to see granted. StuCo reviews the
wishes and tries to grant as many as we can. Some of the
winter wishes granted this year were fuzzy socks, do-
nuts for the Color Guard, a popcorn party for Mrs.
McDonald’s honors chemistry class, candy for all of the
new teachers, and even a photo op for one student with
Mr. Williams. StuCo loves to grant wishes and bring holi-
day cheer to the school!
This was our first year to hold a holiday door decorating
contest between advisory classes of the same grade. The
theme was “Classic Holiday Songs.” Students decorated
classroom doors during advisory, and each there were
some very creative designs! Besides fostering friendly
competition, these fun decorations added a festive flair to
our hallways.
This year, The Bean Coffee Co. hosted our annual Cram
with Cocoa event. Teachers gave their time outside of
school to help students prepare for finals while enjoying
the ambience of The Bean. This change of venue provided
a great environment for students and teachers to come
together. Complimentary hot chocolate was provided by
The Bean, and additional discounts on beverages and
snacks were made available.
It was a busy December full of fun activities that helped
us celebrate the holidays and support our students while
finishing out 2018 on a high note.
We love our Broncos!
December Door Decorating Contest
StuCo sponsored a holiday door decorating competition
for all of the Advisory classes during the month of De-
cember, and the winners were announced just before
winter break. Congratulations to the classes below!

SHHS Orchestra Donates to American Legion
The SHHS Orchestra Booster Club is pleased to announce that
they have elected to donate $100 to Cole-Smith American Le-
gion Post 350 to support veterans programs and events
throughout the Spring Hill community.
SHHS orchestra students work hard throughout the year to
raise money through fundraisers to support the high school
orchestra program. These proceeds are typically used to sup-
plement the classroom fund and provide them with education-
al opportunities above and beyond the general operating
classroom budget. Student fundraising allows Spring Hill or-
chestra students to receive specialized training visits from
locally renowned clinicians, attend special performances by
the Kansas City Symphony, and help defray costs for their up-
coming festival competition in Chicago.
The SHHS Orchestra has been honored to be a part of the an-
nual Spring Hill Veterans Day Ceremony hosted by Cole-Smith
American Legion Post No. 350, having performed during the
event for several years. Director Taygun Ozakinci states, “We
believe in the work of the American Legion and agree that our
veterans are one of the most valuable assets to our communi-
ty. Donating funds that our students worked hard to obtain is a
wonderful way for us to tangibly support the American Legion
in their efforts and provide students with an example of how to
be good stewards of their own money.”
Spring Hill High School Orchestra presented the donation to
Mr. Tommy Holland, Post Commander, and Mr. Leland Borgelt
of Cole-Smith American Legion Post 350, Spring Hill, Kansas
on Monday, December 3rd.

Students have been using Xello!
All Spring Hill students in grades 6-12 have access to
Xello which is an online portal that allows students to
discover their career interests along with their post-
secondary plan, The main goal of the IPS is for stu-
dents to create a roadmap for success in high school
and beyond. Starting in October, students used their
Xello account to take an interest inventory assessment
and saved at least three careers based off the results.
In January, students will utilize Xello to match their ca-
reers to post-secondary programs and save at least
three schools that match their results. Later in sec-
ond semester, students will be using all of their saved
information in Xello to create a four-year high school
course plan, starting from their current grade level.
The four-year plan will be used for students to submit
their enrollment choices for the 2019-20 school year.
If you would like parent access to Xello please have
your student log in to Xello through the self-service
portal on their MacBooks and click on “share my plan”.
Students can enter your email address and a link will
be sent to you to create a Xello parent account.
If you have any questions regarding Xello please con-
tact your student’s
counselor (Mrs.
Woofter A-K, Mrs.
George L-Z and
Mrs. Divine –
Freshmen Only) or
Mr. Frigon, the

Education
Coordinator.
Generous Scholarship Opportunity
HISTORY
Ewing Marion Kauffman was an entrepreneur and humani-
tarian, whose innovative and long-lasting contributions have
benefited millions of people in Kansas City and beyond. One of
Mr. Kauffman’s visions was to ensure a postsecondary edu-
cation was possible for everyone, regardless of income, age
or ethnicity.
The Kauffman Foundation is committed to supporting post-
secondary achievement and opportunities for low- and mod-
est-income students. Since 1988, the Foundation has provid-
ed college scholarships and support services to 3,900 stu-
dents. With the help of more than 70 community members,
the Foundation has made the strategic decision to launch a
new scholarship and college savings program for young stu-
dents and adults –Kansas City Scholars.
MISSION
The mission of KC Scholars is to increase postsecondary ed-
ucation attainment in the greater Kansas City area. KC Schol-
ars will provide the means – through scholarships, financial
incentives to promote college savings, and support services
– for low- and modest-income students and adults needing
access to pursue and complete a postsecondary credit-
bearing credential or degree. By doing so, KC Scholars will
improve the educational attainment, economic independ-
ence, quality of the workforce, and participation in community
activities in greater Kansas City.
KC Scholars serves a six-county area of the Kansas City re-
gion: Wyandotte and Johnson Counties in Kansas and Cass,
Clay, Jackson and Platte in Missouri. The program is designed
to serve low- and modest-income high school students who
are in public, charter, and private schools and home-
schooled; and adults with some college, but no degree.
Please use the following link for further information and how
to apply http://www.kcscholars.org/about-kc-scholars/.
Applications open January 1 and are due March 1 for the Fall
2019 semester.
