GETTING WOUNDED VETERANS OFF THE
COUCH AND BACK INTO LIFE...
3
About Phoenix Training
Phoenix Training was started as a way to provide inex-
pensive physical training for wounded veterans to help
them heal from the physical and emotional wounds of
combat.
With the increasing abuse of VA prescribed and other
recreational drugs, too many veterans are sitting on the
couch and zoning out of life. We work with veterans to
give them goals and new dreams. We believe that get-
ting one’s body strong again is part of the process to
helping healing the mind and soul of a veteran. We de-
velop training plans, or times where one of our trainers
works with the veteran in either a one on one or family
working out together situation. We believe that setting
a difficult physical goal like completing a mud run, a 50k
bike ride, bodybuilding, competing in a crossfit or pow-
erlifting competition helps keep the veteran motivated
long-term.
We are a travelling functional fitness gym, and travel
close to the veteran. This allows a veteran to begin their
fitness journey in places where they would feel comfort-
able. We usually go to local parks and do a 45-60 mi-
nute workout in groups of 5-6 or less. That way we can
adapt the workouts to take the veteran from where they
are at, and enable them to grow in their fitness journey.
Get stronger, and feel better about where they are in
their healing.
We are not just about getting people physically fit. We
believe that fitness is an access ramp to helping veterans
with other parts of their lives. In nearly all cross fit, mud
run, bike ride or weight lifting functions that I have at-
tended, wounded veterans would start talking about
fitness. Then within a few minutes the conversation
changes to something else going on in their lives. While
it’s helpful and healthy to see Veterans lose weight and
feel better about themselves. Many times, they need the
motivational push of exercise to work through their own
demons. Getting off the VA drugs and into healthy eat-
ing and fitness has been proven many times over to be
better for wounded Veterans with children and families.
It gives them the energy they need to go back to school
or work, and live a rewarding life. This is my end goal
with the program, to see more and more veterans be-
come healthy and live productive positive lives.

The honor Group
In 2014, Phoenix Training teamed up with The Honor Group as an
ambassador under their 501c3 non-profit umbrella to be able to
apply for VA and other Grants in order to keep the training and
counseling affordable to the veteran and his/her family. Through
them, your sponsorship of Phoenix Training and the West Coast
Independence Games is fully Tax-Deductible.

The West Coast Independence Games
The West Coast Independence Games are an adaptive
functional fitness event for wounded veterans,
first responders and other adaptive athletes.
From 2011-2014, there was under ten adaptive fitness
competitions in the entire country and all of them
were in the Midwest, Texas and on the East
coast. After training veterans for Crossfit, Mud Runs,
MMA and Long bike rides for a couple of years, we
saw the need to have an event for Adaptive veter-
ans on the West Coast.
Phoenix Training, with our partners at The Honor
Group, wanted to host a two day event where we
brought together Adaptive Crossfitters and Veterans
together in California. We want to
challenge warriors to push beyond their normal fit-
ness level and display how far along they are in their
journey.
The Games will have 4 groupings: Wheelchair, Lower
extremities, Upper extremities and PTSD/TBI. We will
scale events, workouts and scale points in each WOD
so that every one will have a chance to not only
compete but have success.
