- QUESTION ??? DDoes particle size effect the size of the
crater?
- Slide 3
- HYPOTHESIS If we drop a marble into bigger particles (kitty
litter) then it will make a bigger crater.
- Slide 4
- BACKGROUND INFORMATION Potential and kinetic energy, force,
gravity, speed and particle size.
- Slide 5
- INDEPENDENT VARIABLE We will be changing the particle size.
Sand and kitty litter.
- Slide 6
- CONSTANTS The size of the marble and the distance of the
drop.
- Slide 7
- DEPENDENT VARIABLE The size of the crater.
- Slide 8
- PROCEDURES STEP 1: Add 500 mL sand to a pan. Drop a marble 80
cm into the sand.
- Slide 9
- STEP 2: Measure the width of the Crater in cm.
- Slide 10
- STEP 3: Follow the same procedure As step 1/ sand with kitty
litter.
- Slide 11
- STEP 4: Measure the size of the crater In cm with a meter
stick.

- CONCLUSION!!!! Our conclusion Our hypothesis was if we drop a
marble into big partials and small partial, then it will make a
bigger crater in the biggest partial. We believe this because the
bigger the partials the bigger the crater will be. Our hypothesis
was right because when we dropped the marble into kitty litter the
crater was bigger than when we put the marble in the sand. We
believe this because when we did our project the crater was bigger
in the kitty litter. Our date was that the average crater size in
the kitty litter was 7cm, and the average crater of the sand is 6
cm. Are ranges was 3 cm on kitty litter, and the range of sand is 2
cm. Are median of kitty litter 7 cm, and the median of sand is 6
cm. Our Explain is we think kitty litter makes a bigger crater
because there is less mass to move when it collides with other
particles. The reason that sand doesnt have a bigger crater then
kitty litter is because there is more mass to push when the marble
collides with the sand. Our new question is if we double the amount
of sand and kitty litter will we get the same results?
