FLAMENCO
SPANISH AND FLAMENCO "El flamenco siempre es una pena, el
amor es una pena también. En el
fondo, todo es una pena y una
alegría." Camarón
Flamenco is a genuine Spanish art, and to be more
exact Flamenco is the soul of Andalusia
It exists in three forms: Cante, the song, Baile, the dance and Guitarra, guitar playing.
Gypsies are very often named as the fathers of Flamenco, and at least it can be taken for certain that
they played an important part in its creation. But also the popular songs and dances of Andalusia have
influenced early Flamenco considerably.
Granada is one of the main references for Flamenco
in Spain and the Sacromonte can be considered its
cradle. This gypsy quarter is the epicenter of what
the experts call “el Duende” and the origin of the
“Zambras” the traditional flamenco singing and
dancing dating back to the XVI in wedding rituals of
the Moorish of the city
The purpose of this program is to immerse participants in the world of flamenco by learning its rhythms,
hand clapping, hands and body postures and some of the most popular dances. Participants will also
learn about the richness of flamenco through presentations, auditions, attendance to a flamenco show
and visit to a flamenco guitar maker.
