Your New Newsletter Hi Southwest District! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Ava Red and I will be this year’s Bulletin Editor. I am a junior at Grand Canyon University studying Psychology and History. I am super excited about the things going on here in the Southwest and I hope that these issues will do all of that awesomeness justice! I personally believe that communication and recognition are some of the most important aspects of retaining members, and I hope this newsletter will give us an opportunity to have both of those things on a district level. If you have great things going on in your club that you want in the newsletter, adorable pictures, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me (see page )!

Fall Rally 2014!

We had more than 55 people attend Fall Rally this year. The theme was the Hunger Games and people had to “kill” other CKI’ers off in order to win. District 1 was the reigning champion of the weekend, but it was a close call! We had great participation from all the clubs, and it was great to see everyone getting to know people from other clubs in the district.

The Kiwanians at camp were very impressed with us. We did a ton of service, and they were very grateful! They invited us back next year, and kept stressing how impressed they were with the turn out and participation of the CKI’ers.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF started in 1950 in order to help children that needed more than candy. Every Halloween, the Southwest District Circle K International clubs go door-to-door with orange UNICEF collection boxes, yelling out, "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!" This has been a successful tradition for clubs every Halloween where members can dress up in costumes while raising funds to provide vaccines that protect women and their future newborns. $1.80 provides the series of three vaccine doses for one woman. These funds raised by our district have the ability to benefit more than 190 countries and territories to keep children and their mothers healthy and alive. Since 1950, more than $170 million has been raised for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. This Halloween, our combined funds totaled $758.36, which provides a series of three vaccinations for 421 women! Meet Your LTG’s

Kachina Division- Chelsea Fox (ASU, GCU, & NAU) Hi my name is Chelsea Fox, I am the Lieutenant Governor for the Kachina Division. I attend Northern Arizona University. I am a Junior and I am majoring in Nursing. My biggest goal for my division is for all the schools to do a big service project together. I think it would be a great thing to see the clubs in my division come together doing what CKI is known for, which is service.

Baja Division- Eric Andrews (UofA)

Hello Southwest District! My name is Eric Andrews and I am the Baja Division Lieutenant Governor for

the 2014-2015 year of service! I am a sophomore studying Electrical and Computer Engineering at the

University of Arizona. I joined the Kiwanis Family with Key Club during my sophomore year of high

school, and it’s safe to say that was one of the best decisions I have ever made! Since the Baja Division

currently only consists of my home club at the University of Arizona, I hope to expand my division

during my term! [6]

Rio Grande Division- Serina Pack (WNMU & NMSU)

Zia Division- Heidy Ramirez (ENMU & UNM) Hi friends! My name is Heidy Ramirez and I'm your Zia Division Lieutenant Governor. I'm a junior at The University of New Mexico (Go Lobos!) and currently working towards my Nursing major. I've been in CKI for a little over a year now and am truly loving it. Some goals I have for my position are: To bring my division's CKI clubs closer together to build up a stronger relationship to one another. I would also like to gain more knowledge of the many possibilities and opportunities that come with being a Lieutenant Governor, as well as putting it all to good use. All in all, I'm excited to be working with these clubs and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and making new memories.

Members of the Month

UNM: Josh Heckman Although he is new to the club, Josh has done a lot of community service throughout CKI. He has also gotten to know the other members through attending social events as well. As a club, we would like to congratulate Josh!

ENMU: Deanna Lovato Deanna is one of the clubs newest members and is always motivated to help out with whatever needs to be done. She works hard. Deanna is always one of the first to offer ideas for projects or offer her time for service.

UA: Marina Ornelas

NAU: Allyson Furey She is an Elementary Education major with a concentration in languages. She is from New York, lives in Arizona between Flagstaff and Phoenix. She is an amazing member who loves to serve her community, and we are proud to call her our member of the month  

GCU: Katie McAnnis Katie is our member of the month because she took on the role of being the bulletin editor. She has put a lot of effort into making our bulletins creative and effective. She is also very active in service and is great to have as a member of the team!

Thank you all for the amazing things you are doing in your club and SWD! Congratulations on your nomination! You deserve it!
