Sons and daughters of God

INTRODUCTION
When do we become sons and daughters of God?
“When we are baptised we become sons and daughters
of GOD”
4
5
• Many misses the significance of this fact
• Many are insecure, worry about need.
While God does provide They miss what God wants for
them
6
OUR IDENTITY(Pagkakakilanlan – Pakatao)
Without Proper sense of Identity• We are lost and disoriented• We lack conviction.• We lack sense of purpose.
Our Identity is critical to our well being
7
IDENTITY• IDENTITY- an objective fact, a given
• SENSE OF IDENTITY – depends on our perception who we are
Ideally it should be based on actual identity
8
• IDENTITY- • an objective fact, a
given
9
• SENSE OF IDENTITY – depends on our perception who we are
10
Not having the right sense of who we are gives rise to this SITUATION:
1. Worries too much about the future
2. Hard to develop close relationship with HH member
3. Reluctant to serve as HH head
11
GOD wants us to have an accurate and well developed SENSE of IDENTITY…
…to conform to what our Identity truly is.
12
So, what is our IDENTITY?
1 John 3:1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God;
13
John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
Galatians 3:26So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.
We are children of GOD
14
Through baptism we have been change
radically
But most begin to understand only gradually
15
If we know this, it would make tremendous
impact
But why no impact on many Christians?
16
Because they do not understand
“SONSHIP”We need to understand the nature of
Father – Son relationship. The key to the significance of our
NEW IDENTITY
17
Father and Son relationship during
JESUS time
18
A son’s IDENTITY came from his father
Luke 4:22 Everyone there said good things about Jesus. They were amazed to hear him speak such wonderful words. They said, “How is this possible? Isn’t he Joseph’s son?
19
They said, “How is this possible? Isn’t he Joseph’s son?
20
The relationship between father and son was strong:
Important in the first century ISRAEL
At age 6 or 7 responsibility on bringing up the son shifted from mother of father
Taught them God Law and trade Became direct personal representative Inherited father’s social position
Today’s Generation
Not closely identified with their father
Spend less time togetherDon’t have the same livelihood
21
22
Being a son of GOD is a relationship of tremendous depth and substance God will:
Train Govern Care For Pass On HIS Life
23
Adam’s Case : In Genesis
Gave him wife Provided food Give him task (taking
care of His creation)
24
25
Most identifying characteristic as CHRISTIANS is:
Not where you live Not what you have
“but…That you are the sons and daughters of GOD”

3 Benefits of “SONSHIP”
1.Authority2.Inheritance3.Access
30
In Jesus’ time, a son BORE his father’s Authority
1. A Son’s Authority
The Parable of the Tenants
31
The Parable of the Tenants33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. 36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said
32
. ‘They will respect my son,’
“The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another
33
Consider the example of Jesus When question he pointed
to his father (John 5:23)John 5:2323 so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
34
Mark 2:10 (Story of Paralytic sinner)10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Forgiving authority
Jesus exercised authority Gave orders to nature Ordered demons to leave
35
We are given Father’s authority as well
We can exercise authority over our problems, obstacles and challenges
We should not succumb to them
36
Authority helps us make our lives easier to live as CHRISTIANS
We can adequately represent and serve our Father
We are our Father’s personal Representative
37
2. A Son’s InheritanceOur inheritance is staggering, because it is everything that the Father has.
Son = Heir
38
Galatians 4:77 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
39
In New Testament:
Father passed on all he had to Son
His fortune Status in community Trade Responsibilities
40
TODAY:
• Inheritance = bundle of money
•
• Children are expected to make it on his own.
41
42
Our inheritance is not restricted to the future Ephesians 1:13-14
IMPLICATIONS:• We know of our inheritance, so we
can act accordingly• We can have one direction in life• Freedom from anxiety
43
3. A Son’s AccessEphesians 2:1818 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit
Son of King don’t get appointment to see the King
44
Ask, Seek, Knock
Matthew 7:7-117 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
45
CONCLUSIONS
46
We are sons and daughters of GOD. God went to a lot of trouble to make as such.
He sent Jesus, His own son, top die for us.
47
God invested in making the most of His relationship with us.
God wants us: To be secure, confident and free
from anxiety To bear His authority. To receive our inheritance To take advantage of our access
to Him.
48
In short, God wants to teach us who we are so that we can receive all the benefits that come with our position
49
1 John 3:1-2
3 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; 2 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be.
50
May God be Praised
