PRINCIPAL’S NEWS Kindergarten Orientation Tomorrow will see the start of our three week Kindergarten Orientation program. This is an exciting time for our school as we love meeting our new friends. Year 5 students have discussed their roles as Kindergarten buddies and have been given their ‘buddies’ for next year. Sports Gala Day Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions last week the Sports Gala Day that Mr Mitchell had worked so hard to organise had to be cancelled. Students who had paid for the day will be able to use that $5 for either the Swimming Scheme or the end of year Movie Day. We would like to pass on a big thanks to the parents who helped cook the BBQ and hand deliver lunches to the Mountain Schools who were to be participating on the day. It was a huge job and we greatly appreciate your help. Year 3/4 League Tag Day This Thursday, Mr Mitchell will be accompanying Year 3/4 to the League Tag Gala Day to be held at Adcock Park. Our students are being coached during lunchtimes on the rules and skills of the game and are looking forward to participating on the day. Thank you to Mr Mitchell for organising this for the students. Year 5/6 Basketball Competition On Friday, our two Year 5/6 basketball teams will be competing in the Graeme Brown Basketball competition to be held at the Niagara Park Community Centre. Thank you to Corey Gerard for training the teams Friday afternoons after school. Good luck everyone! Year 6 2016 Leadership Speeches/Assembly As there is a clash with this Friday’s basketball competition, the published assembly that was going to be held this Friday has been moved to Friday, Week 8 (27th November). There will be no assembly this Friday. Year 6 2016 Leader speeches will now be held at the assembly that will now be held in Week 8. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Interrelate The Interrelate session that was to be held on Wednesday night at Central Mangrove will now be held here at Somersby PS. The night’s sessions will run at the same times, starting at 6pm. Basketball On Friday two 5/6 teams will play in the Central Coast Schools’ Basketball Competition. A big thank you to Cory Gerard for giving his time to coach the students. The games commence at 9.00am at the Niagara Park Stadium so students will need to be at school by 8.30am if they are being provided transport. A note will go out shortly to all transport providers.
League Tag Yr3/4 students who nominated to enter the League Tag Gala Day for this Thursday received a note on Friday. This activity became a viable option following the cancellation of our Small Schools’ Gala Day. Please ensure all notes are in by tomorrow and I’ll be able to send home a transport arrangements note.

Environment News We would like to say thank you to Corey and his family for entering our school in the Eggs on Legs competition. They had to take a photo of one of our chickens and write a story explaining why we would like some new ones. Corey and his family explained how we already have some chickens and we would like to extend the family. They mentioned how our chickens happily roam around the school and enjoy lots of cuddles from our students. Their story was chosen and we are now the proud new owners of two more beautiful hens called Ace and Bubbles. We’re certain they are going to have a wonderful time and enjoy their new home.
Kindergarten 2016 Orientation We are looking forward to welcoming our 2016 kindergarten students for their first orientation day tomorrow. They will spend the morning with their buddies and getting to know their classmates for next year. We will be seeing our new friends over the next three Wednesdays. We hope they have a wonderful time. Jade Cranstone
5/6 5/6 have been leaning about colour this term. They have made their own colour wheels using the Primary Colours, red, yellow and blue. They produced some high quality work. Come and see them in the school office. Laura Knight

P&C News Family portraits day Sunday, November 15 If you are planning to have a family portrait taken this Sunday and haven’t yet booked, you MUST get your booking in before the end of school tomorrow. At the moment, we do not have enough bookings to make it viable for the photographer to attend. Unless we receive an extra couple of bookings tomorrow, the event will be postponed until next year. Thanks to the Gala Day volunteers Even though the sports gala day was cancelled, lunch orders were still provided to all four schools which were to attend. Many thanks to the volunteers, who cooked, packed and delivered the lunches to their destinations. Christmas raffle The P&C is holding a Christmas hamper raffle which will be drawn before the end of school. If you would like to donate an item for the hampers, you can place them in the basket in the school office. Thanks for your support. Family event: Barefoot bowls

Tuesday, December 1 The Barefoot Bowls night is shaping up to be a great family night out. It will be held at the Ourimbah RSL, 6.30pm-8pm. It is for all members of the school family, not just P&C members. The cost of the Barefoot Bowls is $10, and the RSL also has a lovely restaurant where you could choose to dine after your game. To book, please email somersbypandc@gmail.com or phone Wendy Paxton on 0428 437 137. Bookings close on November 27. P&C meeting update Unfortunately, the attendance at last week’s P&C fell just short of reaching the required quorum. Due to the urgency of some of decisions that needed to be made in relation to end-of-year events, it was decided to hold an informal planning meeting and to circulate notes to P&C members from that discussion, asking them to respond with their view by email. If you are a financial member of the P&C, and have missed those notes, please email somersbypandc@gmail.com ASAP. Cookbook committee meeting Thursday, November 12 The cookbook committee will meet at 8.15am on Thursday in the uniform shop.
