Famine in Somalia

Emergency! The people in Somalia, Africa are suffering

with Famine! And lots of people are dying from it.

What is Famine?

Not much food left Extreme scarcely of food Drought could lead to Famine

Why is there Famine?2 main reasons-

Drought No stable government since 1991. (Fight

between governments and all lead to crisis.)

Failed State

Loss of control Inability to provide public services (such as,

food, water etc) Inability to interact with other states

They need nourishment

Thousands travel by feet trying to find nourishment in Kenyan and Ethiopian refugee camps, (border countries of Somalia.)

1,000 Somalians arrive, half are starving children. 17,000 people waiting to register.

There is an opportunity for humanitarian community to stop this, and support the herders and farmers so it won’t lead to additional emergencies.

Did you know…

4 million people need humanitarian aid. 750,000 people in danger of imminent

starvation. Crisis is predicted to get worse. Thousands of people died (more than half are

children) Worst drought in 60 years.
