In the USA, CSA Group is recognized by the Occupational Health
and Safety Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized
Testing Laboratory (NRTL). Generally speaking, all OSHA recog-
nized laboratories conduct their tests against the same sets of U.S.
standards and codes, regardless of who authors or publishes them.
CSA Group tests to applicable U.S. standards, which include ANSI,
UL, CSA, NSF, and others. In Canada, CSA Group is accredited as
a Certifi cation Organization (CO) and as a Testing Organization
(TO) by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).

What are the possible scenarios?
• Manufacture of a specialized made-to-order product

� e objective of these programs is to facilitate the electrical safety
evaluation of equipment. � ese are one-time verifi cation programs
at the client s facility for a limited number of units or when a pro-
duct is made to order. Special inspection is the name of the pro-
gram for products to be installed in Canada, US Field Evaluation
the one for products to be installed in the U.S.A.

Which documentation is required by CSA Group?
• Full name and address of the facilities where the products are
manufactured and contact person for each facility
• A marketing brochure or data sheet describing the products
(what it is, what it does, what it looks like, and photos)
• List of components or materials of the products, including
manufacturer names and model designation
• Indication of any approvals of the constituting components
• Schematics and/or wiring diagrams
Special Inspection / Field Evaluation Process
• Client submits documents and information required by
CSA Group
• � e documentation is reviewed by the Special Inspection
Representative assigned to the project and all additional
information is reviewed
• � e inspection is planned according to the client s needs
• � e Special Inspection Representative performs the inspection
• Upon compliance with the requirements: the CSA Special
Inspection Representative labels the products with a serialized
unique Field Evaluation Label
• A CSA Report is issued and relevant documentation is fi led
