• Solar power plant in LPU has been placed on the terrace of the 38th block.

• 400’s of solar panel has been placed to generate electricity in a efficient way.

• Solar energy i.e energy provided from sun is steady throughout the year.

• It is one of the most widely used renewable energy source. It not only benefits individual owners, but also benefits the environment.

It was built in 2013 and was constructed in 3 months.

Low cost running. It generates 600V of DC current. Power of 100kW(0.1MW) is

generated. Amount of 1 crore was invested

in this project and we are getting 30% subsidy from Punjab Govt.

We are not using any battery since it increases 50% of project cost.

The length of DC wire should be less. Hence, the grid tie inverters should not be placed far from the panels.

Clamps are used to fix the panels with the stands.

Some devices like lightning arresters, temperature and radiation sensors are used.

Type of solar power plantPhotovoltaic Electricity – This method uses photovoltaic cells that absorb the direct sunlight just like the solar cells you see on some calculators.

As light hits the solar panels, the solar radiation is converted into direct current electricity (DC).

The direct current flows from the panels and is converted into alternating current (AC) used by local electric utilities.

Finally, the electricity travels through transformers, and the voltage is boosted for delivery onto the transmission lines for local electric utilities.

• Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are based on a high-tech but remarkably simple technology that converts sunlight directly to electricity.

• The most important components of a PV cell are two layers of semiconductor material commonly composed of silicon crystals.

The bottom layer of the PV cell is usually doped with boron, which bonds with the silicon to facilitate a positive charge (P), while the top layer is doped with phosphorus, which bonds with the silicon to facilitate a negative charge (N).

The surface between the resulting "p-type" and "n-type" semiconductors is called the P-N junction. Electron movement produces an electric field that allows electrons to flow from the p-type layer to the n-type layer.

Solar energy has the potential to dramatically change the way the world gets its power.

While solar is among the world's cleanest forms of energy, plans to develop utility scale solar farms have raised concerns about potential environmental impacts.
