Preface
Thanks for selecting WGQH Series Liquid Starter from Worldwide Electric Co., Ltd. It is a high-tech product
suitable for various load class drive motors such as production machineries, fan and water pump, integrating soft
starter、energy saving and protection. It is designed by our company with many years of experiences and we are
responsible for professional production and sales.
This manual provides the user with the relevant precautions for installation, setting of operating parameters,
abnormality diagnosis, routine maintenance and safety operation. Please read this manual carefully before
installation to ensure correct installation and operation of this product.
As regards our products and our service, all the staff of our company firmly believes the principle that the
customer is God. In case of any difficulty or unsettled problem arising in operation, please contact the dealer or
directly contact us.
After the arrival of the starter, check the product for its type, specification and etc. If any part of the product
does not go well with the written documents or materials due to updating, consult our company. Check quality
indicator, product manual, maintenance guaranteed manual and packing list. Contact the supplier if any problem.
Please keep this manual well, which will be helpful for maintenance, take-caring and other applications in the
coming future.
Unpacking for check
WGQH series solid soft starter for cage motor has passed the strict quality inspection and performance
testing before ex-factory. After purchasing, please check whether there is any damage due to careless
transportation, and whether the model of the product conforms to the ordered one prior to unpacking. In case of
any problem, please contact us or the supplier.
1. Check if the information attached to the equipment is complete and in line with the content of packing list of
the equipment.
2. Check the nameplate on the cabinet body to confirm that the equipment is in line with the ordered equipment.
3. Check whether the spare parts and components are damaged or lost. The spare parts and components shall be
governed by procurement contract.

WGQH series high voltage solid soft starter is high voltage equipment which has a potential voltage that can
harm the human body. Only the authorized and trained persons can operate and maintain this equipment. For the
induction high voltage on the motor, it is dangerous after powering off. Thus the operation can be done only after
discharging.
All the panels and cabinet doors have to be closed during normal operating. Take care of the interlocks of the
high voltage switchgear and the soft starter because they are the important methods for safety.
There are high voltage power supply and control power supply of the soft starter. Pay attention to switching
off the control power supply after powering off the high voltage power supply before the operation. When operate
the charging equipment, do stand on an insulating plane to ensure that the operation men are not grounding.
The safe operation of this equipment need correct transportation, operation, installation and maintenance.
Special attention:
The application of the compensating capacitor: the reactive power compensating capacitor used for
improving the power factor can be connected only to the input terminal of WGQH. Do not connect it to the output
terminal to avoid the damage of the power elements of the silicon control.
The insulation test of the megohm meter: do not measure the insulation resistance between the input and
output terminals of WGQH, otherwise, the silicon control and the control panel may be damaged by overvoltage.
The megohm meter can measure the interphase insulation and phase-to-ground insulation of WGQH. But the
input terminals shall be short circuited respectively with the output terminals by three short circuit wires and all
the plugs shall be pulled out before measuring. The above principles have to be followed when measure the
insulation of the motor.

Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1. General
WGQH series high voltage solid soft starter is a new type soft starter for high and medium voltage AC motor
of the voltage below 10KV. It controls and protects the motor complexly by advanced control technology, electric
power and electron technology and the technology of series/parallel connection of the silicon control. Compare
with traditional starting methods, WGQH has the intelligent control mode, which not only can set the starting
torque, starting current, starting time and stopping parameter and other parameters, but also can inter-control with
the computer and PLC. It adopts original binding high quality thyristor and other import silicon control. It makes
the motor start and stop smoothly by stepless controlling the output voltage to avoid the harmful impact on the
electric network by starting overcurrent. Thus, large power motor can be used when the capacity of the electric
network is limited and the lifespan of the motor can be prolonged. High voltage AC motor has the advantages of
small volume, low consumption, high reliability and sensitivity, no contact, being free of maintenance, no
pollution and convenient installation and so on.
1.2 Advantages:

1.3 Brief introduction to typical application
1. Water pump: use the control function of pump, in starting and stopping to reduce the water hammer of pump
flow due to the impact from liquid flow and saving the maintenance fee of the system;
2. Ball mill: by means of the slope starting of voltage, reduce the wearing of the gear torque, reduce the
workload of maintenance and prolong the service life;
3. Blower fan: replace traditional starter with the solid soft starter and reduce the wearing of belt and the
mechanical impact;
4. Compressor: realize smooth starting and reduce temperature rise of motor theough limiting the current ;
5. Crusher: avoid burning of the motor due to over-heat caused by mechanical fault and blockage via block
protection and fast protection;
6. Conveying machinery: realize smooth and gradual starting process and smooth speed-reducing stopping
process and avoid the damage to materials and equipment due to impact by means of soft starting and soft
stopping control.
Chapter 2 Working principles
High voltage thyristor softer device is series connected between three-phase AC voltage and the input
terminal of three-phase AC asynchronous/synchronous motor. It changes the effective value of three-phase input

current in order to fulfill the aims of starting of constant current and the starting of some slope variety voltage.
After finishing starting, three-phase bypass contactor J automatically pulls-on and the motor is brought into the
service of electric network (see fig.1). In the condition without impact current, please see fig.2 for the oscillogram
of the input/output voltage and the variety of the current.

3.2. Characteristics of the equipment
This equipment adopts unit construction and module installation. It has the absorption and protection
technology for multiple over-voltage; multi-step limiting clamp of the transient dv/dt lightning impact voltage and
the operation wave over-voltage and other transient excess processes; it has a special methods for di/dt, open

valve, the voltage-sharing in shutting-off process of the valve; it adopts high anti-interference digital trigger and
CT isolating transmission trigger impulse which make this high voltage equipment as safe and reliable as the low
voltage one.
Adopting double single-chip microcomputer full-digital control;
With the function of 5-bit LED nixie tube display, with the current display range of 0~99999A, displaying
the working state of the motor in an all-round way;
Harvard SCM has interference-resistance capability, guaranteeing the control system works reliably in the
complex industrial environment with strong interference;
With three starting modes including constant flow soft starting, voltage slope starting and pulse jumping
starting, suitable for various loads, with smooth starting process and small starting current (the constant soft
starting mode can control the starting current within 1~3.5 times of the rated current), the starting time can be
adjusted according to the requirements of the working conditions. The constant current soft starting is
suitable for the non-load starting and light load starting of motor, voltage slope starting is suitable for the
heavy load starting of motor; in case that the static friction of the load machinery of the motor is relatively
large, please select the pulse jumping starting mode.
With two stopping modes including free stopping and soft stopping; the characteristics of soft stopping can
satisfy the mechanical requirements on different occasions and the soft stopping time can be adjusted; the
characteristics curve of soft stopping is shown in Fig. 4;
With reliable function of over-current protection, overload protection, overheat protection, power supply
open-phase protection and output open-phase protection, guaranteeing reliable and safe starting and stopping
of the motor. It will protect the open-phase fault of the motor within 1 second and it has the function of
current amplitude limiting protection. When the motor is overloaded, it has the function of I2t protection,
with the performance superior over the protection of thermal relay. In addition, the monitor will display the
corresponding fault codes.

3.3 Characteristics of the performance

2. Many kinds of starting
The control modes of the soft starter: current limiting start and voltage slope start. Besides, the starter has
crawl operating function settable and selectable by the user according to the load and other specific requirements.
(1) the current limiting soft starting:
When the motor starts, its output voltage value increases rapidly until the output current reaches the setting
limiting value Im as it is shown in fig. 1-1. The voltage increases gradually, which makes the motor accelerate
gradually. When the speed of the motor is close to the rated value, the output current reduces to the rated current
Ie rapidly and the starting is finished. The current limiting value can be set according to the load condition and the
setting range is 1 to 4 times of the rated current of the motor.

(2)the voltage slope starting
Please see fig.1-2 for the oscillogram of the voltage variation of the voltage slope starting. U1 is the initial
voltage value output by the soft starter. When the motor starts, the output voltage of the soft starter increases to U1
rapidly and increase gradually according to the setting time t, the motor speed increased by the increase of voltage,
when voltage reaches the rated value Ue, the motor reaches to the rated speed, the starting is finished. The starting
voltage U1 and the starting time t can be set according to the load. The setting range of U1 is 30%-80% UeV and
the setting range of t is 0-180 s.
(3)stop
Free stop and soft stop modes settable by the user according to the load and working conditions
Free stop: Upon receiving the stop command, solid soft starter will switch off the bypass contactor
immediately blocks the output of the thyristor of the main circuit to stop the motor along with
the inertia.
Soft stop: In this stop mode, the power supply of the motor load switches from bypass contactor to the
thrysitor of the main circuit and the output voltage of the softer reduces gradually until the
motor stops operating. The stop time can be set according to the load requirement and the
setting range is 0-30S.
3.The protection function
Missing phase protection: When missing phase, block the pulse to prevent the motor winding burn out caused
by power supply missing phase.
External protection: When the control panel is fault, cut off the power supply
Start overtime protection: If the start time of voltage slope start, constant current start, pulse kick start

exceeds the setting “start time”, block the pulse, shut down the soft starter, carry on overtime protection.
Then, re-set the initial voltage and start time.
Over-current protection: When starting, motor current exceeds the limit value, then cut off the power within 1
s
Running current overload protection: When running, motor current overload exceeds setting time, then cut
off motor power
Running current inverse time overload protection: I ² t overload protection
Phase sequence protection: When input phase sequence is not the same as output phase sequence, block the
start signal, send signal to protect
Start interval protection: start times is less than 6 per hour, and time interval between 2 times is more than 10
minutes, or block start signal to protect.
4. Widely used in many occasions:
Normal start: Such as, the load of the bow propeller, compressor, lifter, centrifugal pump, conveyer belting
and elevator and others can selects the type according to the rated power of the motor. The starting voltage of
the motor can be adjusted between 40% and 50%.
Heavy load start: Such as, select the type as 120% of the rated power of the centrifugal machine, crusher,
mixing machine, grinding mill and agitator and others. The starting voltage of the motor can be adjusted
between 50% and 60%.

Chapter 5 Installation and debugging
Warning: WGQH series high voltage solid soft starter is high voltage equipment which has a potential
voltage that can harm the human body. Only the authorized and trained persons can operate and maintain this
equipment. For the induction high voltage on the motor, it is dangerous after powering off. Thus the operation can
be done only after discharging.
5.1. Primary check
Generally, WGQH series high voltage soft starter is upright during transportation.
Unpack the equipment carefully and check if it is damaged during transportation. Write damage report and
inform us within 15 days after receiving the bill of loading.
Check if there are loose mechanical parts, circuit break and loose wiring phenomenon during transportation
and carriage. Please inform us if there are above phenomenon.
5.2. Installation and wiring
WGQH series soft starter is series connected between the high voltage switchgear and the high voltage motor.
Please cut off all the power supply before installation. The installation of the specifications of high voltage electric
shall be followed during installation. Ensure the safety distance and horizontal installation. A certain space has to
be kept around the cabinet to ensure the free opening and closing of the cabinet door and for the convenience of
the operation and maintenance.
The grounding cables shall be connected to the ground terminals at the bottom of the cabinet. Inspect all the
resistance among the ground lines by ohm meter to ensure reliable grounding. The wiring of the power cord of the
soft starter is bottom inlet and bottom outlet.
The output power cord of the high voltage switchgear is connected to the output interfaces R, S and T of the
vacuum contactor though the inlet holes of the cabinet via the high voltage cables. The outlet of the cabinet is
connected to the high voltage motor through the outlet holes of the cabinet via the high voltage cables by U, V and
W interfaces. The interfaces shall be protected by insulating bushing. If there is zero sequence mutual-inductor,
the inlet cable shall go through it.

connected to connecting terminals through the inlet holes for the control power supply of the soft starter.
Inspect if the connecting line for the power supply and for the load are in good connections. Make sure that
the input phase-sequence is exactly the same as that of the output.
5.3. The tests of the dielectric strength and of the protection functions
1 The test of the power-frequency tolerance voltage
The test of the dielectric strength can be done if the condition at the user side is allowable:
a. the primary to the second grounding
Short circuit all the input and output terminals of the primary loop. Short circuit the two terminals of the
thyristor. Short circuit the terminals of all the secondary loops and then connect them to the shell and the
earth. Add power frequency AC 35KV 1min between the terminals of the primary and secondary loops and
the earth. There shall be no breakdown or flashover.
b. between the primary loop
Shot circuit respectively the three-phase input and output terminals A, B and C of the primary loop, including
the two terminals of the thyristor. Add power frequency AC 35KV 1min among any of one phase, the other
two phase of the A, B and C phase of the primary loop and the earth. There shall be no breakdown or
flashover.
c. the secondary loop to the shell
Short circuit all the terminals of the secondary loop. Cut off the line connected to the shell and the earth line.
Add power frequency AC 2.0 KV 1min between the terminals of the secondary loop and the shell. There
shall be no breakdown or flashover.
2. The test of the protection function
The aim of the test is to check if the inspection and protection units of the soft starter can work coordinately
and reliably. Because some faults have to be simulated, suggest to testing in the system of the voltage 380V
or below for the safety of the equipment.
a. the test of no-voltage protection function
Press the start button of the soft starter and then short circuit 380V power supply. The soft starter shall alarm
and display “no-voltage”. The control system will reset.
b. the test of the over-current protection of the soft starter
Set “the upper limiting value of the current” of the soft starter. Start the motor with light load and then
increase the load of the motor to the upper limiting value of the current. The soft starter will trip and alarm
with “over-current” displayed.
c. the test of the operating over-current protection
Set “the upper limiting value of the operating current” of the soft starter. Start the motor with light load until
bypass operation and add the load of the motor to he upper limiting value of the current. The soft starter will
trip and alarm with “over-current” displayed.
d. the test of the protection function of starting overtime
Modify the “starting time” value of the soft starter to the value more than the actual starting time of the motor.
The soft starter will trip and alarm with “over-time” displayed if the protective time of starting is up.
e. the test of start phase sequence protection
Change the input terminal of starter and the wiring terminal of motor, to make they are different, when press
start button it trip immediately, display “phase sequence is error”
f. the test of external fault protection
Make fault relay operate, the starter will alarm, display “external fault”

g. the test of starting time interval protection
Start immediately when the first start is completed, the starter will block the start signal, and display the start
time interval.
5.4. Low voltage simulation (only for the technicians for installation and debugging from our company)
Low voltage (380V) simulation function has been designed for WGQH soft starter. Select one low voltage
(380V) motor of the power about 10KW before connecting the high voltage power supply and the high voltage
motor. Connect respectively as the requirements of the inlet/outlet of the soft starter. Open the small door of the
soft starter, and then open P4, P5, and P6 of the main panel. The rotary switch of the cabinet door shall be in test
status and the ready indicating light will be off. The soft starter will be in low voltage working status. Operate it as
the operation process and it shall work normally. If not, find the reason and solve it.
If the low voltage (380V) simulation debugging function is normal, short circuit P4, P5, P6 of the main panel
and make the rotary switch turn from test position to high voltage working position.
Special attention: add high voltage electricity in low voltage working status will damage the equipment.
5.5 High voltage debugging
If the low voltage (380V) simulation debugging function is normal, connect high voltage cables according to
the requirements of installation wiring in 2 and 3 after returning to high voltage working status. Please check the
followings before powering on:
Check if all the conductor lines are wiring correctly and in good conditions.
Check if the grounding of the system is good.
Check if any of the mechanical parts and wiring is loose. Check if there are metal powder, screws and
sundries inside the cabinet.
Check if the wiring of the motor and the insulating are good.
Close the front and back doors to check if high-voltage interlocking mechanisms are working normally.
Check if all the parameters are correct. Modify them if necessary.
In high voltage working condition, operate it as the operation specifications of the soft starter and the starter
shall work normally.

Meanings of unit indicator light:
A-if this light is on in starting or running of the motor, it refers to current unit A (ampere),in setting
parameter; If this light is on, it refers to viewing this parameter value; In case of fault, it will be off;
P - this light will be on after the motor starts and switches over to the bypass, in setting the
parameter; If this light is on, it refers to parameter editing state; In case of fault, it will be off.

6.2、Method of setting password and parameters
In order to guarantee the parameter of the soft starter will not be illegally modified, it is necessary to set the
parameters only when the password is validated. The password input method is shown as follows (an example
with 0200 as the existing password):
After entering the password input state, press “STOP” for direct exit in case of not modifying the parameters.
Password modification method is shown as follows (an example of modifying the former password 0200
into 0205):
When the soft starter is firstly used to control the operation of a motor, it is necessary to set the parameters
according to the related parameters of the motor and the load of the motor, otherwise, the starter will control the
starting motor according to the present value, which may result in the failure of the starting or abnormal
operation.
The parameter setting steps are shown as follows: an example of setting soft starting mode (9P=1) and soft
stopping (AP=20) to 20 seconds:
- P A S S Set to “-PASS” state according to the above password input method.
It will display the initial password and the lowest position will flash. Press “SHIFT” within 2 second in the state of displaying “-PASS”. - 0 2 0 0

6.4、Description of function parameters:
1 CT variety scale (function code OP)
Choose the parameters basing on the real variety scale of the inner set current transformer. The parameters
have been set by us before ex-factory, so it is not necessary for you to adjust.
2 Starting mode (function code 1P)
According to the different operating conditions on site, three kinds of starting modes will be offered: set
1P as (0,1,2).
0 means constant current soft start, applicable to no-load starting, light-load starting of the motor, low
capacity of the electric network or the occasion that the starting current is strictly limited. The current will be
kept at the set point of 4P from starting to the end of starting if this mode selected; (the starting characteristic
curve is as Fig. 1)
1 means voltage ramp starting, applicable to the starting of the motor with short time start and without
strictly limitation of the starting current, supplying terminal voltage for motors in voltage ramp mode, initial
voltage of the ramp will be set by 2P and the slope of voltage ramp will be adjusted by 3P; (the starting
characteristic curve is as Fig. 2), normally adopt this method.
2 means impulse step starting, applicable to the operating condition of load machinery for motor with

relatively bigger static friction, it is also started in voltage ramp mode and the different point is that a high
voltage with ultra-short duration will be added to the motor at the beginning of starting. (The starting
characteristic curve is as Fig. 3)
3 Starting voltage (function code 2P)
Valid when 1P is selected as 1 or 2, indicating the initial voltage value of voltage ramp, setting according
to the voltage percentage within the range of 30-80%. As the higher the starting voltage the larger the value is;
the larger the initial torque of the motor, the larger starting current of the motor is, please set carefully, normally
set as 40% (add this value appropriately in case of heavy load to guarantee the starting torque is more than static
torque of the mechanism) and adjust with 3P and 6P to allow the motor to complete the starting smoothly while
the starting current not exceeding 6P set point and within the 3P setting time range.
4 Starting time (function code 3P)
Set as 0~180S according to the load status of the motor; if the time is set relatively longer, the starting
current change slowly and the actual starting time of the motor will be prolonged correspondingly, so the time is
normally set as 30s, which will be increased properly in present of overtime protecting.
5 Constant current (function code 4P)
This parameter shall be valid only when 1P is set as 0, and the set value is the percentage of the rated
current of the motor (100~400%) ; When the motor is started, the soft starter will control the starting current of
the motor and shall reach and keep this parameter setting value to the end of starting. If the parameter setting is
small, the starting torque of the motor will be smaller and the starting time will be longer.
6 Rated current (function code 5P)
The parameter refers to the rated current of the motor and input the parameter value according to
nameplate of the motor. (Unit: A)
The setting range is 0-1060. Take A to present 10 when the rated current of the motor reaches 1000A or
above. For example, “5PA60” presents that the rated current is set to 1060A. If the starter is triangle mode wiring,
it will transfer the current automatically to make the current value displayed corresponding to the wire current of
the power supply.
7 Starting amplitude limiting current (function code 6P)
Set the parameter according to the percentage of rated current of the motor within the range100~600%,
and normally set as 300~500% of the rated current of the motor on the basis of the load of the motor. Cut off the
power supply of the motor when the starting current of the motor exceeds the set value, and the relevant fault
code will be shown on the monitor.
8 Step voltage (function code 7P)
This parameter shall be valid only when 1P is set as 2. It means that add an unexpected high-voltage
amplitude of ultra-short duration to the motor at the time of starting, and it can be set to 50~80% of the supply
voltage.
9 Step duration (function code 8P)
When the motor is in the starting mode of impulse step, the duration of unexpected high-voltage added to
the motor at the beginning of starting shall be set as 200~800ms.
10 Stopping mode (function code 9P)
Two stopping modes are offered according to the operating conditions on site when the wiring mode of the
starter is ordinary wiring mode (that is, set HP to 1):
0 presents free stopping; upon receiving the stop command, solid soft starter will switch off the bypass
contactor immediately and cut off the power supply of the motor to stop the motor along with the inertia.
1 presents soft stopping; after receiving the stop command, solid soft starter will make the silicon control
on state firstly, secondly switch off the bypass contactor, and then reduce the terminal voltage of the motor

gradually by controlling the silicon control until the motor stops, cut off the power supply. Applicable for the
stopping of the load of water pump to overcome the water-hammer effect, and the stopping of the load of
transmission band to eliminate the inertia attack of the object.
【Note】When soft stop mode is selected, the starter will have the function of soft stop only after starting and
stopping is completed after bypass operation. It has no soft stop function if it is stopped during operation; the
starter has no soft stop function when the HP is set as 0.
11 Soft stopping time (function code AP)
When the motor is in soft stopping mode, this parameter can adjust the soft stopping time of the motor (if
the pump head is high and the inertia of the object on transmission band is large, a relatively large parameter
value should be set; or a small value should be set. The value is adjustable between 0 and 180s), and it is skipped
in mode of free stopping.
12 I2t overload protection curve (function code bP)
Inverse-time-lag overload protection function for running current of the motor provides 4 inverse-time-lag
overload protection curves for users to choose (1, 2, 3, and 4). The relationship between overload multiple and
protection time is shown in figure 1, and the larger the overload current the shorter the response time is. The
starting current value of inverse time lag protection takes the larger one between 1.14Ie and (1+EP parameter)*Ie.
For example, set EP parameter to 20, thus (1+EP parameter)*Ie =1.2Ie which is above 1.14Ie, and the starting
current value of inverse time lag protection will be 1.2Ie.

13 Control mode (function code CP)
Offering six control modes in all and the parameters shall be set as (0 to 5).
0 represents keyboard control (only the keyboard is valid while others are invalid)
1 represents remote control (there are two-wire and three-wire control modes, see the secondary wiring
diagram for details. Other control modes are invalid)
2 represents PC computer control (Other control modes are invalid)

15 Specified time overload protects the overload quantity (function code EP)
Set the parameter according to the percentage of the rated current of the motor within the range of 0 to
400%, specific time overload protection current of the motor =(1+EP parameter)×Ie .
16 Local address (function code FP)
Used for serial-port communication, and is unique in the same network.
17 Test function of minitype motor (function code gP)
Test function of minitype motor is invalid when gP is set to be 0;
Test function of minitype motor is valid when gP is set to be 1. It can enable the motor whose power is far
smaller than the rated starting value of the motor to conduct the routine inspection of the starter in testing or
maintenance environment. In the main loop power transmission condition, the starter turns to bypass operation
when the starting process is finished or reaches the starting time set by 3P. It has no protection functions of
overtime starting or output open-phase. gP returns to 0 state when the control voltage is broken.
Start the device with no-load test in main loop with no power transmission condition, and the device output
bypass signal when the starting time reaches the starting time 3P set. It has no protection functions of overtime
starting or output open-phase. gP returns to 0 state when the control voltage is broken.

When the test function of minitype motor is valid, set to the rated current of the minitype motor for test, and
the range of the setting current is 1 to 100. The amplitude current, I2t overload protection, the rated current of the
motor in specific time lag over load protection at this time is hP.
5P can also be set according to the rated current of the actual large motor, and the modification is not necessary.
19 Connection mode of the starter (function code HP)
The motor has two connection modes. For the motor of triangle wiring mode, the starter can concatenate into
it, and HP shall be set as 0 at this time; for the motor of routine wiring mode, HP shall be set as 1.

6.6 Powering on for running
1. Check before powering on
Before switching on the power supply, confirm whether the AC input voltage is within the allowed range;
Check whether the power of the motor is in line with the attached soft starter;
Detect if the resistance value of silicon control is normal with multi meter (the detection method of silicon
control is attached hereafter);
Check whether any of the fastening screws, connections and connecting terminals are loosened;
Connect the power supply to the input end of the solid soft starter through air switch, which are separately L1,
L2, L3 and N;
Check whether there is short circuit event existing in phase to the ground or interphase at the input and
output ends of the power supply of the starter;
Finish the connection in accordance with the installation requirements;
2 Trial run
● Close the breaker of incoming line, it will display “―――――” if the self-check is normal; it will display
emergency protection code if the self-check is abnormal, please read the description of protection display
and refer to the fault treatment to eliminate the fault, it will be ok after being powered on again. If the fault
can be eliminated without the need of powering off, press the key STOP to reset, and it will display

Adjust the parameters of the soft starter reasonably according to the nameplate of the motor, to enable the
motor torque to the optimum condition. Note: the parameters can only be modified in stop state.
Press the key RUN to start the motor, and meanwhile observe whether the rotation direction of the motor
conforms to the requirements and whether the running is normal, press STOP to stop the motor in case the
running is abnormal. Switch over two ends of L1, L2 and L3 or two ends of U, V and W randomly if it is
necessary to change the rotation direction of the motor.
If the motor torque is not enough or the starting time is too long, please increase the starting voltage or
constant current value to increase the motor torque.
The motor can only be restarted when the motor completely stop running.
3 Running
Please refer to the <function table of parameters> when setting the parameters.
Press RUN key (use terminal signal in remote control), start the soft starter, the motor will speed up
smoothly; if the current is within the ideal range, it indicates that the parameter settings are appropriate; or
else adjust the parameters to the suitable status.
Press STOP key (use terminal signal in remote control) to execute stop order.
Chapter 7 Protection display and fault treatment
7.1 Description table of protection display

Note: if parameter of the memory chip is uninitialized, no memory or memory broken of solid soft starter
WGQ7, FA008 fault will be showed, and the motor will not start until the fault is eliminated. Except this, any
other fault will lead to a stop and the fault code will be indicated.
7.2 Fault treatment
Maintenance should be carried out by professional technical personnel
In case of abnormality in the process of starting and running, the solid soft start will turn to fault protection
status. Relevant fault code parameter be showed on the display to indicate the current failure information and the
power supply of the motor will be cut off at the same time. Please refer to the following steps to check and remove

the fault:
1 The noise is abnormal when starting and running the motor:
Check if the activating line of silicon control (or module) is of poor contact, whether the silicon control
(or module) is damaged;
Check if the bypass contactor is damaged or is of poor contact, the contactor shall be shut off when
starting in normal status and closed while running;
Check whether there is open phase at the power end or load end, and check the connecting line;
Check if the settings of parameters are correct and appropriate.
2 The motor can’t be started or the starting failed:
Whether the terminals 13 and 14 are powered on 220VAC;
Check whether the indicator lamp of switching power supply is on, if not, check whether the fuse in
switching power supply is blown;
Check if the starting signal is normal or not, and terminal 11 is connected to terminal 8 in remote control
(detect the voltage between the two terminals with the 200VDC step of the multimeter, 0V for
connected), terminal 11 is disconnected to terminal 9 (detect the voltage between the two terminals with
the 200VDC step of the multimeter, 24V for disconnected), in case of one in fault, the on-off state is
incorrect, and it is necessary to change the switch;
Check if the main power supply is connected to the terminals L1, L2 and L3 or not;
Whether the power frequency is normal or not (50Hz);
Check whether the setting of parameters is correct and proper;
Check whether all of the connections are disconnected or getting loose according to the secondary
wiring diagram;
Whether the soft starter is overheated, it is necessary to reduce the number of starts in this case, and
restart after cooling;
If the soft starter is not hot, check whether the fault input terminal 10 is disconnected to 11 (detect the
voltage between the two terminals with the 200VDC step of the multimeter, 24V for disconnected), it
indicates that the temperature switch (85℃, normally closed) is damaged if disconnected, and it is
necessary to replace it;
Check whether all of the connections inside the soft starter are disconnected or get loose.
3 Abnormal stopping while running:
Check whether the voltage of the main power is abnormal and open phase is available or not;
Check whether terminals 6 and 7 are closed (detect the voltage between the two terminals with the
1000VDC step of the multimeter, 0 for closed), and then check according to the following steps if the
terminals are switched off; check whether the voltage at both ends of the control coil of bypass
contactor is 220VAC in case of being closed, if the voltage is 220VAC and the contactor is switched off,
which indicates the contactor is faulty, it is necessary to replace it;
In remote control, check whether the terminals 11 and 9 are closed (the method is as above), it indicates
that the remote control switch is damaged if closed, and it is necessary to replace it;
Whether the soft starter is overheated, and whether the temperature switch is switched off (i.e. whether
the fault input terminal 10 is disconnected to 11); if it is not hot and the temperature switch is switched
off, it indicates that the temperature switch is damaged and needs to be replaced;
Check whether all of the connections are disconnected or get loose according to the secondary wiring
diagram;
Check whether all of the connections inside the soft starter are disconnected or get loose.

7.3. Routine maintenance:
Remove the dust on electric device, control panel and copper bar regularly.
Check the fastening status of the connecting terminals and screws regularly.
Chapter 8 WGQH soft starter Modbus communication protocol
WGQH soft starter communication adopts MODBUS RTU communication protocol, using 3 kinds of
function code to complete 6 functions. Information transfer is asynchronous, in bytes, the baud rate is 9600 bps.
Each character includes 1 start bit, 8 data bits(firstly send the smallest significant bit ), no Odd-even check bit, 1
stop bit, check method is CRC16 cyclic tediously long check. Details are as follows:
Totally use 3 kinds of function code, complete the following 6 function

The 4-6 bytes information of the data from slave to the host is as follows:
The fourth byte input amount status information, corresponding to the input status of terminal 3J1 and 3J6
from the WGQH motherboard, read it according to bit data format. D7-D3 bits are spare, D2 bit indicates external
fault input status (1 for external fault, that’s to say, the terminals KFAULT and KCOM of 3J1 are cut off, or the
fourth and fifth feet of 3J6 are cut off; 0 for no fault), D1 bit indicates remote control stop input status(1 for
remote control stop, that’s to say, the terminals KFAULT and KCOM of 3J1 are short connected, 0 for no remote
control stop signal ), D0 byte indicates remote control start input status(1 for remote control start, that’s to say, the
terminals KFAULT and KCOM of 3J1 are short connected, 0 for no remote control start signal)
The fifth byte working status information, corresponding to WGQH actual working conditions, read it
according to bit data format. D7-D4 bits are spare, D3 is fault status bit(1 for fault status, 0 for not in fault status),
D2 is running status bit(1 means has been transferred to bypass operation, o for not to bypass), D1 is start status
bit(1 for start status, 0 for not in start status), D0 is ready status bit(1 for ready status, o for not in ready status)
The sixth byte fault status information, corresponding to WGQH actual working conditions, read it according to
bit data format. D7-D0 are corresponding to fault status FA008-FA001(1 for in this fault status, o for not in this
fault status)

The simple method for judging whether the silicon control is good is that test the resistances among poles and
the resistances among poles of the good silicon control are as follows:
Trigger electrode and negative electrode — some dozens of ohms;
Trigger electrode and positive electrode — some dozens of kilohm,
Negative electrode and positive electrode — some dozens of kilohm.
