Connect all the aspects using the emerging new Information And Communication Technologies, and We get a system that’s not only functioning well but functioning SMARTER
A city within a city
Growing urbanization Between 2010 and 2050, the number of people living in cities will increase from 3.6 billion to 6.3 billion. By 2025 there will be 37 megacities, each with a population greater than 10 million; 22 of those cities will be in Asia.
So, then what’s a Smart City?
A Smart City is the City which uses information combined with technology to
improved quality of life, reduce environmental impact, and decrease energy demand.
The six dimensions of a Smart City
Smart economy (competitiveness)
• Innovative spirit• Entrepreneurship• Economic image and trademarks• Productivity• Flexibility of labour market• International embeddedness• Ability to transform
Smart people (social and human capital)
• Level of qualification• Affinity to life long learning• Social and ethnic plurality• Flexibility• Creativity• Cosmopolitanism/ open- mindedness• Participation in public life
Smart Governance
• Participation in decision- making • Public and social services• Transparent governance• Political strategies and perspectives
Smart mobility
• Local accessibility• (inter-) national
accessibility• Availability of ICT-
infrastructure• Sustainable, innovative
and safe transport systems
Smart environment
• Attraction of natural conditions• Pollution• Environmental protection• Sustainable resource management
Smart living
• Cultural facilities• Health conditions• Individual safety• Housing quality• Education facilities• Touristic attraction• Social cohesion

Uses of ICT in building smart cities• Smart lights and sensors
for street lightningIn UK,400 LED lights are connected to servers that register changes in the levels of sunlight in order to adjust brightness from midnight until sunrise. This helps reduce the city’s energy consumption by 40%.
• Intelligent dynamic traffic management A team from the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC) has developed In4Mo. This system is not only capable of detecting the density of traffic and vehicle speed but can also make helpful predictions about traffic patterns.
Continuing..• An interactive bus stop
terminal• An E-ink display
Possibilities in Nepal
• Street lightning can be managed by using sensors, and renewable resource can be used for the power.
• Traffic systems can be made more effective by using traffic management system
