Control the Future, Invent it

Energy Efficiency

• As India develops, the per capita electricity

consumption would go up drastically

• Motors accounts for 60 ~ 65% of the total electricity

consumption

• Energy efficiency/renewable energy programs must

address electric motors.

• In countries like India with huge infrastructure

constraints, it makes more sense to focus on using the

existing resources more efficiently

Lights &

Fans

• Uses existing appliances, which are inefficient

• Motorised loads like AC, Fridge, etc., are not included

• Battery charge controller & Inverters are needed

• Loss of efficiency could be significant (as much as 30%)

• Battery maintenance & Replacement cost are important issues

• Overall cost is quite high

• Rooftop area required is also high

The New Solution

• Use of Super Efficient Appliances

• All appliances operate directly from DC

or AC

• Soft starting - no starting current

• No Inverter

• No battery, unless critical backup is

needed

New Solution - Key Features

• Central Grid Controller (CGC), iGrid, monitors the power

available in the panels and also the load requirements so that:

• All the appliances run from DC when sunshine is available

• In case of cloudy conditions, maximum power available in

the panels is used

• When sunshine is not there, the appliances run from the

utility mains

• When excess power is available in the panels, the same can

be fed back to the grid thru a Grid Tie Inverter

iGrid - Features

• No costs when sunshine is available

• When running from AC Mains, the following advantages

accrue:

• The power bill comes down by at least 50%

• The power factor is near unity for all the appliances -

tariff incentives can be availed of

• Wide voltage fluctuations in the input supply voltage are

permissible - 100/150 V ~ 270 V (No stabilisers are

needed)

• Credits from the EB for excess power fed back to the grid

Case Study - Energy Centre, Chennai

• Installed System: (running for last 10 months)

• 1.44 kW Polycrystalline panels

• Connected Load:

• 1 Ton Air Conditioner

• 330 Litre Frost Free, 2 Door Refrigerator

• 1200mm Ceiling Fan - 2 Nos

• LED Tube Light 1200mm - 2 Nos

• LED Bulbs - 7 Nos

• Cumulative Energy Consumed Total: 287 kWh (60 days)

• Energy supplied by Solar Panels: 236 kWh

• Energy Drawn from TNEB Grid: 51 kWh

• Total Energy Savings: 82%
