Juice Extraction Control

The cane juice extraction for the sugar production can be doneby mills or diffusersThe mill tandem is composed generally of 4 to 7 mill unitsEach unit is a set of 3 rolls. Sometimes exists a fourth roll thatexecutes the forced feedingIts actioning is provided by steam turbines, electric motors orhydraulic devices

The imbibition may be simple or compoundThe quantity of water to be added to the cane is directlyproportional to the fiber content of the cane, between 200 to250% of fiberAs the value of the fiber is a difficult parameter to establish, generally is used 25 to 30% of the total weight of the caneThe temperature is an important parameter. Never may exceedthe 65 C degrees due to the effect of dilution of wax anddextrinesThere is a big commitment between the quantity of water addedto the cane to improve the extraction and the energic balanceof the total process

The motricity of the pol extraction process is the sugarconcentration difference among the broken cells and theimbibition juiceDirectly acting over the extraction as well, are the pressure ofthe mills, the temperature of the imbibition water, the fibercontent, the height of the cane mattress, etcThe saccharose that cannot be recovered at the mills is a directloss. It goes to the boilers to be burned and never more can berecovered

The Juice Extraction Operation

Milling Plant Control

For each 1% of strange matter that enters to the sugar process,it’s lost 1,5 Kg of sugar by ton. of processed caneThe preparation index defines the result of the preparing of thecane to be crushed. 90% is a good indexFor each unit of difference between the purity of the mixedjuice and the purity of the primary juice it’s lost 2,5 Kg of sugarby ton. of mixed juice entering at the factoryThe extraction at the first mill must be between 50 to 70%The humidity of the bagasse must be between 48 to 50%The pol of the bagasse at the end of the last mill must be as lowas posible. 2.0 is a good valueThe mills area must be an aseptic place by the use of hot water, steam and chemical products

Efficiency of Pol Extraction. Comments

Milling Plant Control

Better energic efficiencyControl over the complete processIncrease of the industrial efficiencyConspicuous improvement on sugar quality (color, humidity, filter easibility, etc)Reduction in losses and acquaintance of what are its causesIncrease of the accomplishment with the technologicalstandards for the sugarBetter condensate recovering at the heat interchanger devicesRaising of the operators technical levelMore easibility for the maintenance tasks: the equipment arebeing monitored

Results of the Automation (1)

Milling Plant Control

Possibility of establishing one operation strategy for everysituation of the factory without interference among the areasCentralization of the operation. Better taking of decisionprocessConspicuous increase of the real information of the processBetter profit of the installed facilitiesIncrease of the operators safety Allows the integration between the process and the laboratoryusing the on-line analysis as a tool for the process operationReduction in the energy consumption allowing one co-generation strategy
