Sleeping sickness• It is a parasitic disease of humans
and other animals, caused by a protozoan (Trypanosoma brucei)
• This disease is caused by a fly called tsetse. Tsetse fly transmits it by biting.
• This disease affects the brain and the meninges.
• The fly and the parasite are nearly in 36 countries in Africa
SymptomsThe symptoms observed are confusion, reversed diurnal rhythm (is sleeping during the day and waking at night) and convulsions. The patient increasingly becomes mentally impaired, finally loses bladder control, and there may be other forms of paralysis. Finally they go into a coma.
