Represents more than 1.6 million people who live in the 16 cities and counties that comprise Hampton Roads.
Engages and unites Virginians to improve our natural and scenic environment.

Everyone in Hampton Roads is encouraged to join a transformational community improvement project ◦ 25-50 volunteers per project◦ Half day of work

Re-landscape public school grounds Public park cleanup and beautification Remove a dilapidated foot bridge in
Norfolk in preparation for refurbishment Remove litter and debris from the Great
Dismal Swamp Help divert household hazardous waste at
a collection event Hiking trail and wetland cleanup And many more projects to be
determined
Transformational Projects
Hold a transformational project in each Hampton Roads municipality
Recruit at least 1,000 volunteers Raise at least $100,000 for
future transformation projects Heighten awareness through
media coverage Engage more people in local

Suffolk: Dismal Swamp/River Cleanup
Virginia Beach: Park and Railroad Cleanup, Shelter Yard Spruce Up
Southside Projects (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and Suffolk)
Hampton: Litter Cleanup, Beautification, Landscaping
James City County: Litter Cleanup, Beautification
Newport News: HHW/Electronics Collection, Landscaping, Park Maintenance, Litter Cleanup
Poquoson: Blueways & Byways Clean up, Park Spruce up, Adopt A Spot cleanups
Williamsburg: Prescription Drug take back, Storm drain medallion installation
Peninsula Projects (Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, York)
Set goals for the day; Prepare work plan and schedule
Meet with Volunteer Team Leader on site; Take “before” pictures!
Secure necessary supplies, equipment and materials
Provide check in area for volunteers Provide welcome, instructions and safety
briefing to volunteers Supervise the work Secure equipment, materials and site Take “after” photos Thank all volunteers and support staff
