Testing is a part of life. The better we

can do on tests, the more opportunities

we have.

skills. Opportunity… for scholarship money. Opportunity…. for selective education programs. Opportunity… for a more successful future.

Before the Test

Do well in your classes and practice good study habits.

Keep yourself healthy.

Eat more fruits and vegetables. Cut down on junk foods.

Drink lots of water. Get plenty of exercise. Make sure you get adequate

rest. Practice good hygiene

Materials You Might Use #2 Pencils Highlighters Scratch Paper Calculator (for certain sessions

of math) Library Book (when finished with

a session) Snacks (for break time)

On Test Day

Be Ready! Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a library book. Bring your other allowable

testing items. Be in your seat on time. Organize the testing

materials provided to you.

Stay Positive

Know that you can do this!

Wish your fellow students well!

Follow Directions Be attentive to what the teacher

is saying. Follow along in the test booklet. Note any instructions written on

the board. If you don’t understand a

direction, politely ask for clarification.

Use Your time Effectively Scan the section before you begin. It is OK to take your time, but work

steadily. Make sure you record your answers in the

right section of your answer booklet. Be sure to bubble the answer that matches

the number of the item you are on. If you finish before the end of the session,

use that time to review your answers. Do not go to any other test sections.

Use Non-Disruptive Relaxation Techniques

Drink plenty of water. Practice good posture. Do non-disruptive stretches

while sitting at your seat. Don’t hold your pencil too

tightly. Use the restroom before and in

between test sessions.

Use Test Taking Strategies Be sure to correctly copy your

math problems onto your scratch paper.

Read the questions before you read the passages.

Up your chances for a correct response by eliminating choices that are obviously not correct.

Be respectful to others… at all times.

Be polite Keep your hands and feet to

yourself. Don’t make distracting

remarks or gestures. Don’t make distracting

noises.

After the Test

Relax. Don’t think about the test for awhile.

Continue to do well in your classes.

Continue to develop your study skills.

Take a genuine interest in the subject matter.

Think about how it relates to the world and your goals.

In Closing…Take time to review the results of

your test. If you didn’t do well, don’t give up. If you did do well,

celebrate!

Either way, continue to work toward improving and using your knowledge to attain your goals and to increase

your opportunities for success.
