Purpose Thesis Statement Elements of Culture Supporting Details Conclusion Questions?

The purpose of this project is to explore the following guiding questions:

What is my culture?  How is it expressed in the things I do, think, and

value? How did I acquire that that culture?   Where did it come from?

My name is Shivasurya and I am a person of Indian origin. I am born in Monterey, California. I am an American citizen. Since my parents are from India, we practice mostly Indian culture with a mix of American culture.

My Language: English My Arts: Piano My Diets of food: Indian food (sometimes

American food) Religion: Hindu Holidays and festivals: Some festivals I

celebrate are Daseera, Diwali, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Beliefs about /rituals and customs rebirth and death:

There is no rebirth. There is one life to live and live the BEST. There is no life after death.

Explanation of afterlife: There is no afterlife. If there is one, we wouldn’t know what it is going to be like. Even now I don’t know anything about my past lives, so life before birth and life after death really doesn’t matter.

Relationship between of Man and Nature: Nature takes care of us and we should take care of it.

Concepts re divinity/the sacred: I believe in sacred life which means we should live a clean life like being honest, living with respect and dignity and a good life.

Beliefs toward superstition and the supernatural:

I don’t believe superstition and supernatural powers. I believe in reality that happens around us.

Role of father, mother, children, and elderly:

Family plays a significant role in the Indian culture. My father is the head of my family.

My father makes all important decisions and rules, and my other family members abide by them. My mother, father and my teachers are the main people in my life.
