Equipment • Disposable gloves• Electric razor or safety razor• Shaving lather or pre-shave lotion for electric
razor• Basin of water (105 degrees F)• Face towel• Mirror• Wash down• Aftershave lotion
Step four• Starting in front of ear:
1. Hold skin taut and bring razor down over cheek toward chin.
2. Repeat until lather on cheek is removed and area has been shaved. Rinse frequently.
3. Repeat on other cheek.
4. Use firm, short strokes. Shave in direction if hair growth.
5. Rinse razor frequently.
Step five
• Ask the patient to tighten his upper lip. Shave from the nose to upper lip in short, downward stokes.
Step Eight
• Lather the neck area and stroke up toward the chin. Rinse and repeat until all lather is removed.
Step Eleven
• If the skin is nicked, apply a small piece of tissue and hold pressure directly over the area. Then apply an antiseptic and bandage. Report the incident to the nurse.
Step Twelve
• Clean and replace equipment. Dispose of razor according to facility policy. Remove the head of an electric razor. Use a razor brush to remove clippings. Store the razor according to facility policy.
