Matthew 20:16 The last shall be first and the first shall be last~
“There is always the danger that we may just do othe work for the sake of the work. This is where the respect
and the love and the devotion come in - that we do it to God, to Christ, and that’s why we try to do it as
beautifully as possible.” Mother Theresa

Wit & Wisdom “I think if I’ve learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang
in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you.
Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired,
don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that
holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.” ~ Jon Katz

ther. This opinion did not fit with the evidence in the New Testa-
ment, so the early church condemned the thought of Arius and
clarified mainstream Christian belief by proclaiming that Jesus
had always shared the same nature with the Father—that he was
consubstantial with the Father—before and after he was born.
We also believe that Jesus became “incarnate,” a word that
means that Jesus as God took on the flesh of a human. He was
actually born, though he lost nothing of the Godhead by doing so.
If you had seen Jesus in the first century, you would have seen
God in flesh and bone.
These two difficult words proclaim two sides of our belief. Je-
sus is God, and Jesus is human—he is consubstantial and incar-
nate. Paul Turner Copyright © 2012 Resource Publications, Inc., 160 E. Virginia St. #170, San Jose, CA 95112,

As a global family and as individuals we stray from
the call of the Lord. The readings this fall chal-
lenge us to return to our moral code and the good
life our God wants us to have. This weekend we
are encouraged to delight in God’s generosity which is an open-
hearted giving! Philippians 1:27a reminds us to “Only, conduct
yourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Paul’s
words ring as true today as they did in his own time. Thank
you for sharing your time, talent and treasure with the Family
Promise program in the Monsignor House.
Thank you to everyone who came to the training on Sept. 12.
We had a good turnout from Great Falls. Our next Family
Promise Training is Tuesday Oct. 10 at 7:00 in the parish hall.
Refreshments will be served.
The Crop Walk is Sun., Oct 1. For details please call Sharon
Odden at Family Promise, 866-0288.
For any questions or to take a tour of the Monsignor House
please call Kathie at 781-5033.
“So the last will be first and the first last” - MATTHEW 20:16
You’ve heard the saying “it’s not where you start, but how you
finish.” This certainly applies to this Bible passage. We have a
responsibility not only for our own lives, but for the lives of
others as well. We are called to generously share our gifts with
others, not hoard them for our own use. Our gratitude and gen-
erosity helps us live “God-centered” lives and not “self-
centered” lives.
Musicians Rehearsals resume Wed., Sept. 13 at
7:00pm. You are invited to join the music ministry
~ All voices and most instruments are welcome to
help lead the music. For info, call Mary at the par-
ish offices.
Liturgical Ministers: Remember to fill out your 2017 Time
and Talent form. You must sign up anew every year ~ the
lists are cleared and ministers are asked to commit to one-
year terms. Training schedules will be announced next week.
Liturgical Bits and Bytes ~ Consubstantial and Incar-
nate: The Nicene Creed proclaims our belief in the Trinity.
Among its points is that Jesus is consubstantial and incar-
nate. Neither of these words is common in our vocabulary,
but their appearance in the creed shows how difficult it is for
us humans to explain the mystery of God.
“Consubstantial” basically means “one in being,” but the
word is more technical. It proclaims our belief that there is
only one God, though the Godhead is manifest in more than
one way. God has one nature, but three persons. Jesus ex-
isted with the Father before all ages—before he entered the
world in time and place on the first Christmas Day in Bethle-
hem. He already existed, and he was always truly God—
consubstantial with the Father.
This belief entered the creed after the Council of Nicaea in
the fourth century because of a heresy spread by a man
named Arius. He believed that Jesus had a beginning in time,
and hence he could not share the same Godhead as the Fa-
