Highlights – May 2010
• Spending on fab construction projects are expected to increase by about 118% to $4.3B in 2010 (was reported as 85% growth and $3.7B in the February 2010 report).
• Spending on equipping facilities is expected to increase to over 117% to about $37B in 2010 (was reported as 85% growth and $27B in the Feb 2010 report).
• Fifteen new facilities (including MEMS, LEDs and R&D) are expected to begin construction in 2010 (6 facilities were identified in the February 2010 report). Seven are for dedicated LED fabs, 3 for Memory and 2 for foundry.
• In 2010, 22 new facilities are expected to begin operations (7 LED fabs and 7 facilities offering foundry services). In 2011, 19 facilities are expected to begin operations (9 for LED).
