G325: Section A: Theoretical Perspectives in Media

Question 1(a)

What is Post Production?

What is post- production?

Post Production means: the editing stage, where material is manipulated using software and transformed into a finished media product.

This means everything that happens after you finish filming / photography.

Post Production

• Post Production at AS consisted of editing your prelims and openings (including the titles sequences).

TASK• You have 5 minutes to brainstorm everything

you did for your products at AS at the stage of post-production. • This must be detailed in terms of tools used,

the software pros /cons, your strengths /weaknesses.

• Think about why you all chose to use Adobe Premiere Pro and not Windows Movie Maker for your openings.

Post Production at A2 consisted of editing the footage and audio in Premiere Pro. It also included manipulating the photographs and putting all the text and graphics together on Photoshop.Remember that you made three key products in A2

TASK• You have 5 minutes to brainstorm

everything you did for your main products at A2 at the stage of post-production. This must be detailed in terms of tools used, the software pros /cons, your strengths /weaknesses.• You should also detail your progression

of film editing and Photoshop skills at stage of post production between AS and your A2 tasks.

• You also have to remember that you produced and post produced work for your both your evaluations.

• The main difference between AS and A2 for some isn’t obvious – video to video.

• But you must be able to evaluate these skills and think about everything that you have learned for your entire four pieces of coursework.

Evaluations??

TASK• You have 5 minutes to detail the

progression specifically from:

• Premiere Pro for prelim (some of you had never edited).

• Premiere at AS

• Use of Photoshop at A2.

• Further advanced use of Premiere Pro at A2.

• Any other editing software you have used

• Try to think about how you have become more technically competent in terms of your use of digital technology to present work creatively at the stage of post-production.

•All of your work should make reference to your knowledge of the KEY MEDIA CONCEPTS.

• MEDIA LANGUAGE• REPRESENTATION• AUDIENCES• INSTITUTIONS

This can help you to develop your analysis and push your answer into a higher level as you will be justifing your choices.

Past question

Describe a range of creative decisions that you made in post-production and how these decisions made a difference to the final outcomes.

Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.

Potential Structure suggested by OCR

Paragraph 1: should be an introduction which explains which projects you did. It can be quite short.

Paragraph 2: should pick up the skill area and perhaps suggest something about your starting point with it - what skills did you have already and how were these illustrated. Use an example.

Paragraph 3: should talk through your use of that skill in early projects and what you learned and developed through these. Again there should be examples to support all that you say.

Paragraph 4: should go on to demonstrate how the skill developed in later projects, again backed by examples, and reflecting back on how this represents moves forward for you from your early position.

Paragraph 5: short conclusion.

Remember it's only half an hour and you need to range across all your work!
