What is a Metasearch engine?
• A meta-search engine is a search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and/or databases and then gathers together the results into a single list or displays them according to their source.
What are some good metasearch engines?
Dogpilehttp://www.dogpile.com . Nice because it points to the search engines and also gives tabs for video and images
Excitehttp://www.excite.com Only looks at google, yahoo and bing but also gives tabs like dogpile.
• MetaCrawlerhttp://www.metacrawler.com Seems to favor Yahoo has tabs like dogpile
• Search.comhttp://www.search.com Seems to favor bing
iBoogiehttp://www.iboogie.tv/ Not Commercial relies on Blekko, seems pretty academic

• Some good bets for valid websites depend on sponsors and include those ending in:– .org– .gov– .edu
• Who owns the site? Is it a reputable group or organization?
• Is the information current? • Does the source tell readers where its facts are from?
