Morality• Concern with the distinction between good and evil or right and

wrong

Scientific Revolution• The emergence of modern science during the early modern period,

when developments transformed views of society and nature.

Scholasticism• Used reason as the chief method of determining truth.

Nicolaus Copernicus• Asserted the earth revolves around the sun and also rotates on its axis

daily.

Galileo• Defeated Ptolemy's theory that the earth is the center of the

universe. Was put on trial before the Inquisition for heresy and forced to recant.

Sir Isaac Newton• Invented calculus and developed the law of gravity.

Tycho Brahe• Built an observatory.

Francis Bacon• Published works on inductive logic (you collect data, then determine

what conclusion(s) can logically be derived from data).

Johannes Kepler• Developed laws of planetary motion based on observation and

mathematics.
