Major Disadvantages

1. High Cost of School Uniforms

2. Freedom of Expression is stifled by School Uniforms

3. School Uniforms do not cut down on bullying

High Cost of School UniformsUniforms are not cheap!

• Children are constantly growing, so having to buy new uniforms every year can become very costly.

• Many parents feel the addition of uniformsto their child's wardrobe is an added expense to their budget.

• Students will not wear the uniforms outside of school, so another set of

clothing must be purchased as well.

Freedom of Expression is stifled by School Uniforms

• Requiring students to conform every day in appearance may deter them from discovering their true individuality.

• Uniforms take away the right of young people to express their feelings through the clothing that they wear.

• Uniforms do not teach children how to deal with people who are different then themselves.

School Uniforms Do Not Cut Down on Bullying

• Clothes are not the root cause of bullying and therefore the bullying will continue, regardless of dress policy.

• If students wear uniforms, some children will bully each other over:– Hairstyles – Jewelry – Shoe choices. – Parents' professions – Socioeconomic status
