• Took longer to respond and had fewer opportunities to contribute
15
Recommendations (1)
• Students should be exposed to well-constructed presentations and understand that the amount of information they present depends on the time given
• The body of the presentation should consist of two or three main ideas, which need to be explained or supported so that they are clearly understood
• When students try to present too much information, they tend to speak quickly without proper pauses and intonation and they make more language slips
16
Recommendations (2)
• Students need to be aware that the purpose is to discuss/complete a particular topic/task together, so coherence is very important
• Listening to what other members are saying is crucial
• Avoid writing a mini-speech beforehand and then reading it aloud
• A good interaction needs the participation and cooperation of every member of the group so students need to learn the various communication strategies
17
Recommendations (3)
• Understand that there is a difference between written language and spoken language in terms of formality
• Students need to practise the basic speaking skills before they can use them effectively and naturally
• Students should take every opportunity to practisespeaking outside lesson time

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can schools conduct more than one assessmentand submit the better scores for their students?
Yes.
2. Can different classes / students in the same class be given different modes of assessment, e.g. some classes do IP while some GI, or some students in the same class do Part A while some Part B?
Yes, School Coordinators should coordinate with subject teachers to ensure consistent policies.
28
3. Are students allowed to take the SBA online usingZoom / Google Meet?
Yes. Decisions should be made by schoolcoordinator and relevant subject teachers. Bothface-to-face assessment and online assessment areacceptable.
If time allows, schools should consider face-to face-assessment as this allows teacher assessors tomonitor and support the students better.
29
4. Can students submit a recorded performance?
No. Assessment has to be conducted real-time by subject teacher.
5. Do we still need another student to be the audience for IPs when conducting SBA online?
No.
30
6. Can students take part in SBA without wearing their masks when they take part in face-to-face assessment?
Safety measures suggested by EDB and CHP should be followed. Safety precautions such as social distancing requirements and wearing masks should be adhered to at all times.

Suggestions for Running Within-school Sharing Sessions for S5 and S6 teachers
• Who should attend: Teacher assessors of the same form
• Procedure: 1. Start with anchor set (Green DVD)
2. View the samples (H, M & L) from different classes
3. Assessors discuss students’ performances (give enough time for this)
• Focus should be on the students’ PERFORMANCE in the assessment, not impression of students’ abilities / efforts / attributes, etc.
• Give sufficient time for assessors to share good practices and assessment tasks in each class
35
Moderation of SBA Marks
• Statistical moderation supplemented with sample review of students’ work
• All schools submit samples of students’ work for review by SBA DCs
• Statistical moderation conducted by the HKEAA
• Supervisor and M-AD to make final adjustment to individual schools with reference to statistical moderation and the sample review
36

• SBA Teachers’ Handbook
• Implementing Criteria and Standards (with Anchor Sets for both Parts A & B) (DVD)
