From Our Pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler
Dear Friends,
As we honor Jesus as Savior of the World we also, of course, call to mind the nation named for The Savior, El Salvador. At this parish we have welcomed over the years many people from El Salvador. This year we celebrate again the festival and the procession, reminding the neighbors and people along the streets that we love Jesus and we rejoice that He came to save us. This year I am encouraged and heartened to hear from the people that important changes are occurring in El Salvador, things we should notice and for which we should pray. I refer to the reforms being made by the new president, Nayib Bukele. With courage and at-tention to the needs of the people President Bukele is confronting corruption and the lawlessness that has done great damage to El Salvador and her people. He is a man who has an impressive record of making changes which really help the ordinary people of his country. I am sure that because he is attempting to make changes on a national level he is facing great opposition (and probably puts himself in danger). As we welcome Bishop Elias Bolaños among us again this weekend let us keep in mind the needs of El Salvador and the great needs across Central Ameri-ca. I am grateful for Bishop Bolanos’ generosity in sending a number of his priests to serve here in our Diocese—particularly, of course, Fr Alan! May our friendship and connection to El Salvador be one that bears good fruit, even through our sincere prayers for each others’ needs. In all of this we can notice that the words of Jesus are our guide: “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” We strive to become rich in “what mat-ters to God.” With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor P.S. I am very grateful to the many parishioners who
have worked hard to accomplish the success and fun
of our Barrio Fiesta Festival Fundraiser and our
Divino Salvador del Mundo Festival. May God
reward you!

Use your Offertory Envelopes (or let us know)! If you are receiving offertory envelopes in the mail (for the Sunday collection), but are not using them, please let us know! We would be happy to cancel them for you. We prefer and recommend that parishioners use their envelopes, but if not, email Elaine Ventura in the parish office at office@stanthonyparish.org or call the parish office at (703) 820-7111. This reduces costs for the par-ish and reduces paper waste.

Be Brave in the Scared Lecture Series Join Divine Mercy Care and former Tepeyac employ-ee Mary Lenaburg for a lecture and book-signing. Mary's story of caring for her daughter with severe disabilities–fighting for her right to access healthcare and discerning proper medical treatments all the way until the end of her life–will move and inspire you to trust God in the most difficult days. Come and hear how to be brave and love well no matter what you face. The event will be on Thursday, September 12, at 7:30 pm at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main St., Fairfax, VA 22030.
Marriage, Adoption, and Modern-Day Mayhem Join Divine Mercy Care to hear pro-life spokesman Ryan Bomberger, who was conceived in rape, and his wife Bethany discuss creating a life-affirming culture through marriage and adoption. Promoting happy marriages and redemptive adoption stories creates strong, happy families that can serve as lights in the dark and confused culture. It's up to us to show that in the midst of modern-day mayhem, there's another way to live that brings beauty, whole-ness, healing, and redemption. Date: August 8. Time: 7:30 pm. Location: Basilica of St. Mary. RSVP at divinemercycare.org.

Stewardship Reflection “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
LUKE 12:15
The Gospel message today is contrary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not hoard material posses-sions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle and become more “other-centered” and less “self-centered.”
Farm Gleaning with The St. Lucy Project Commissioned by Christ is joining Catholic Charities of Arlington’s St. Lucy Project to glean crops at Parker Farms on the northern neck of Virginia through a series of One Day Mission trips. These one-day farm glean-ing mission trips are great family events, an opportuni-ty to help feed the hungry (a corporal work of mercy), and a great service project for church groups, bible studies, and confirmation students. One day mission trips are scheduled for September 7, October 5, or November 2, 2019. Each mission trip is scheduled to start at 9:00 am and end no later than 3:00 pm. These crops have been donated by farmers and will be trans-ported back The St. Lucy Project warehouse and dis-tributed to local, hungry residents within 48 hours of picking the produce.
