Jobs people do

Pottery making

Before learning about pottery making, I thought this was very easy. I also thought that pottery was made for fun and wasn’t really a real job because I thought pottery was cheap. However pottery actually makes good money so I guess it could we a job. At the Pottery village –Dan Kwain we carved are own pots and trust me you would not want to see my pot; however, I never knew that pots could be so important in Korat people’s life.

Village Jobs

Before visiting the village I thought that there jobs would be similar to the jobs people do in factory’s; however, there jobs are way different. They cooked somtam, caught fish, weave silk, and made wooden baskets. When I saw the villagers I was really surprised how old they were because most people in Bangkok would have stopped working by this age.

Rice Harvesting

Farming

Before coming to know what real farming meant I thought farming was simple. It was simple because I play a game in facebook called farmville. In farmville you grow crop, breed animals, grow tree’s then earn money according to when either the crops, animals, and tree’s is ready an when you harvest it. But of course I know that there are other variables that makes this game in valid like the weather, when you water your plants, insects, and etc. But when I saw how things were actually done it was a lot harder. You don’t do everything correct then your crop is destroyed, it must be frustrating. And think how hard it would be to work in that farm all day in the hot sun and 30 or more crops to take care of. Farming is not as simple as you think.

Activities after finishing job

What I thought about the activities villagers do after work

Before asking the villagers any questions about what they do After work I thought rest. I know they work very hard and most of the time they are in the sun considering Thailand so after that tiring work won’t these people rest. But no they don’t because the men will have to help the women with some choirs because unlike us villagers do things by hand. The men could also take care of his baby if he has one or if he had a older son/daughter the kids could take care. Would that be tiring. I really feel bad because everyday I would come back from school and lay on my sofa and after a my maids would bring me fruits. To know that there kids who have to take care of there baby brother/sister all day and don’t get to rest. All I have to do is go to school, come back to my house, and act like I am sweating but these kids have to do much more so I think this is unfair.

Transportation

what I think about the villagers transportation

Before seeing the village I thought the villagers would use bicycles to conserve energy and money. I was correct but they also used motorcycles and used cars. I learned that the rich people at the village would drive cars and the poorer people would drive either a bike or a motorcycle.

Education

What I thought about the education in the village

I think the village education is very different to are education. There education is different because they work with smaller kids and less space. But when we were visiting the school I saw that most teachers were not treating the children well. The teacher was hitting the children which I think is not so good but they have to take care of many children so the teachers must have been annoyed. If I was in that situation I might have hit the children myself because of all the noise when we visited.

Recycling reusing

What I thought about there reusing

When I first heard about this village recycling I thought it was like what I saw on T.V. You make the object you want to break into a small cube. Then store it. But that was what I saw on T.V. must have been wrong. When I saw a example of reusing I was surprised . The villagers turned a bottle of pepsi into a hat. I never thought that reusing could be like this.
