President Norm introduced our informal Christmas Meeting held at Café Elixir. Norm thanked
everyone for coming along and welcomed our guests, Our Assistant Governor Patricia
Canning, President of Inner Wheel Jan Duffy, Don and Elaine Slater, I introduced my wife Viv,
my daughter Janelle and her partner Goran and their three daughters Hayley, Sarah and
Ashlee, Andrew introduced his wife and sons Benjamin, Alex and James. Andy introduced his
brother-in-law and his wife, Owen introduced our exchange students Akin from Turkey, Anson
from Taiwan and Amber Kirkup our next Outbound Exchange Student going to Denmark. Also
present working at Elixir is our former outbound exchange student Laura Douglas who had
also gone to Denmark.
President Norm mentioned that Debbie had been working on the Christmas Hampers and
thanked her for her good work. These have since been delivered to St Anthony’s Church.
Everyone waited in anticipation for the xmas dinner and all were suitably impressed with what
was served. Much talking and laughing took place during the meal.
Akin provided us with a couple of his own songs accompanied with his guitar. He proved that
he is quite a capable songwriter. They were sung in the Turkish language so I asked Akin
what the translation was into English. He explained that it is very hard to give an exact trans-
lation but that they were mainly about Love. Boys will be boys :)
Anson found a new use for playing cards
3 Wise Happy Men
MARY CHRISTMAS PAID US A VISIT TO HAND OUT GIFTS TO THE CHILDREN AND PARTNERS WIVES
Sargeants Session: Phil Cousins
Everyone not wearing a xmas hat had to contribute and Grumpy
Owen is now known as Old Owen as he turned 60.
Tweedle Dumb (Colin) and Tweedle Dee (Peter) did a great job.
They were also find for having the two bottles of wine on their table lol.
Phil dobbed in his wife Kerry for swimming with her mobile phone. School teachers had to
chip in for being on holiday. Robyn Anderson had broken her arm and really should have
been let off. Andy was dobbed in by Kevin for not giving Robyn a hand.
Debbie was congratulated for spending time at the Wheelchairs for Kids and was asked to
donate if she felt it. Janelle being the President of the Hocking School Board was responsible
for young James getting a hole in his head at the Hocking School playground.
Tom Drinkwater had a few words to say about him either being fined as a Pom or an Aussie
depending on who was winning at the cricket. Also being he can’t drink all other members
drinking the wine donated by the club should pay up $2.00 each. No other fines were made
as we couldn’t afford any more. Debbie mentioned in defense of the Poms that Liverpool
defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5 - 0.
Owen Douglas presented our future outbound student Amber Kirkup with her Green Jacket
to use when in Denmark. The Jacket will weigh a lot more on the way back due to all of the
pins she will collect in her travels. Amber aquited herself very well through the selection
process. Amber gave as a few words expressing her appreciation.
Taylor from Café Elixir explained about the two
dessert choices available.
They were delicious.
Lifetime Honorary Membership Clive Bain presented this award to Don Slater for his years of service with the Rotary Club of Wanneroo
as he joined in 1973, served as secretary for a couple of years and was President in 1978 and 1979 and
was in the club for about 10 years. Clive presented the certificate to Don and thanked him for his service.
Don responded by thanking the club for the award.
A Big Rotary Wanneroo Thank You to Taylor and the staff at
Café Elixir for a great evening.
Laurie Duffy made a sad announcement about the passing of Norman Cockman who was a Charter
Member in the 70’s and 80’s and he was the instigator of having the Rotary Sign installed in Rotary Park.

President Norm thanked everyone for attending our xmas meeting and we played a Xmas song from the
Muppets “We Wish You A Merry Xmas” to close the meeting. No singers came forward to join in, perhaps
next year.

Debbie delivered the Xmas Hampers ready to be delivered to St Anthony’s Church for St Vincent DePaul
to distribute to the needy around Wanneroo. Great Work Debbie.
