Thoughts from Fr. Shea

Corpus Christi Sunday, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. What a

wonderful celebration we have this weekend. We have so much to be grateful

for today. In Jesus’ culture, body meant the entire person. Jesus is telling us

that we now can receive Him fully. It is a total welcome into his divine life.

We know that Jews are not supposed to drink blood. Blood is life itself. The

blood of animals was sacrificed to God to make reparation for sins. Jesus al-

lows his divine blood to be shed for all sins. Just the idea of drinking an ani-

mal’s blood was a terrible degradation. However, drinking the divine blood of

God is a lifting up to share in His divinity. It is a beautiful gift that God has

given us. Let us always be aware of that and give thanks at the Eucharistic

feast!
