Identification of local leaders:-

1st:- Panchayati raj system was launched in 1959 on Balwant Rai

Mehta committee’s recommendations.

Structure of panchayati rai:-

-District level---Zila Parishad..

-Block level---Panchayati Samiti..

-Village level----village panchayat..

Ist:-Panchayats – these are govt. organizations which work at grass root level which approached local bodies of most of the extension workers.2nd:-Panchayat samiti – All the sarpanches of the blocks are ex-officio members.

The pradhan of panchayat samiti is elected by enrolled

members of panchayat samiti& sarpanches of that area.

Pradhan guides the panchayats in making plans

implementation of programme.

Zira parishad- President of panchayat samiti in the district, district collector MLA’s, MLC’s,

MP’s of the district, 1 representative each of SC & ST

& Rural development & 2for women representative.

IInd:- Self help groups(SHG)-Self supporting local groups of

women who organize with a common goal of social &

IIIrd:- Cooperatives - socio-economic organization that can

fulfill both social&economic objectives of its members.

Types:-Consumer’s cooperative society:-These are formed to protect the interest of general consumer by

making consumer goods available at a reasonable price.examples:-

Producer cooperative society:-These societies are formed to protect the interest of small producers by making available items of their needs for production like raw material, tools, &equipments. example:- APPCO,haryana handloom etc.Cooperative marketing society:-

These are formed by small producers &manufactures who fing it difficult to sell their products. Example:-AMUL.Cooperative credit society :- these societies are formed to provide financial support cooperative society &urban cooperative banks.Cooperative farming society:-These

Are formed by small farmers to work jointly and enjoy the benefits of large scale farmers. example:- lift irrigation cooperative societies .Housing cooperative society:-They are formed to provide residential houses to members. They purchase land, develop it & contruct houses or flats & allot the same to

Members. example:- the employees housing societies &metropolitan housing cooperative society.Roles of cooperative societies in agriculture development:-Financial service :- Cooperative societies help small farmers i.e:- providing loans.

Input supply services:- These also hire seasonally used expensive agricultural machinery for the use of members.Marketing service:- significant increase in financial returns can be expected by financial return can be expected by members only by value addition.

Consumer services:- These societies run work for the benefits of members and non members.Welfare service :- they conduct welfare programmes i.e. eye camps, veterinary campus.Extension services:- provide knowledge of technology, train the farmers.

Significance of cooperative societies in india:-An organization for the poor, unskilled, illiterate people.It is easy to formulate as compared with joint stock company.In cooperative societies open membership is there.

A cooperative society is controlled in a demographic manner.Control on their own supplies is given by cooperative societies to farmers and thus, middlemen’s profit is eliminated .Subsidies in repayment of loan,loans at low rate of interest

These societies are family stable life,it continues to exist for a long period of time(not affect of death,resignation, lunacy)An institution of mutual help
