Asturias is a region in the north of Spain.

• Inhabitants: Around a million.• Language: The region has its own language, Asturiano or Bable, however,

we also speak Spanish.• The province has only three main cities (namely Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles)

and a high percentage of its population live in rural settings and make their living from the land, cattle or fishing. Oviedo is the capital of Asturias, a historic university city, which attracts students from all over the world. Oviedo is also host to the annual Prince of Asturias Awards, which celebrates outstanding achievements in the Sciences, Humanities and Public Affairs.

Some facts about Asturias

• Asturias is an area of immense natural beauty. You can visit beautiful beaches, take a walking trip around the Picos de Europa (a mountain range), practise some adventure sports or visit prehistoric caves.

Our school is in Ribadesella, a coastal town in the east of Asturias.

This is our school. It is called IES Avelina Cerra

Ribadesella is at the mouth of the River Sella.

It is an important tourist place in summer with its beaches.

You can also visit prehistoric caves as Tito Bustillo…

… track dinosaur footprints…

…descend a part of the river Sella sailing your own canoe

…or take part in the International Descent of the River Sella

This is a brief summary of what you can find in our region. If you want to learn more, feel free to ask.
