Standards of education and training (SETs)

• Generic standards which apply to approved programmes of study

• Divided into 6 sections:

• Level of qualifications

• Admissions

• Management and resources

• Curriculum

• Practice placements

• Assessment

Standards of education and training (SETs)

• Admissions • ‘The admissions procedures must apply selection and entry criteria, including criminal convictions checks’ (SET 2.3)

• Programme management and resources • ‘Subject areas must be taught by staff with relevant specialist expertise and knowledge’ (SET 3.6)

• Curriculum • ‘The curriculum must remain relevant to current practice’ (SET 4.4)

SETs review

We review all of our standards regularly to ensure they are:

• Up-to-date and relevant

• Clear and accessible

• Useful for professionals and public

• Appropriate

The SETs were last reviewed in 2009.

SETs review – Phases

1) Stakeholder engagement and research – Ongoing to November 2015

2) Professional Liaison Group – September 2015 to March 2016

3) Public consultation – September to November 2016 (TBC)

• Is there a need to strengthen the link between the SETs and the HCPC’s standards of conduct, performance and ethics?
