Q Does the Rzone only apply to sports organizations?

A No.TheRzoneoperatingprocedureappliestoallcommunityorganizationsandindividualsusing

CityofGuelphrecreationandculturalcentres,facilities,parksandthoseparticipatinginprograms.

Q What type of incidents should or can be reported?

A Allformsofviolence,vandalismorinappropriatebehaviourareunacceptableonproperties,infacilitiesorprograms.

Incidentsinvolvingthefollowingshouldbereported.Foracompletedescription,pleaserefertotheproceduraldocumentontheCity’swebsiteatguelph.ca/Rzone•Verbalassault •Threats/aggression•Physicalassault/harm •Vandalism•Useofalcohol/drugs •Theft•Harassment

Q If a situation occurs, how quickly should it be reported?

A Forbestandtimelyresolutions,incidentsshouldbereportedwithin24hours.

Q How and to whom should an incident be reported?

A IfyouareinvolvedinorwitnessasituationataCity“indoor”facility,youcanreportittoastaffmember.He/

she,withyourassistance,willcompletethereport.Ifthesituationoccursatan“outdoor”facilitywherestaffisnotavailableandinvolvesacommunityorganization,thatorganizationshouldbeinformeddirectlyandanincidentreportshouldbecompletedon-lineatguelph.ca/Rzone.

Q If I report an incident, will it be kept confidential?

A Yes,inaccordancewiththeCity’sprivacyinformationpolicy.

Q What happens once a report has been made?

A Whetherreportedinperson,throughanorganizationoron-line,thereportwillbeloggedbyCitystaffand

willeitherbedealtwithdirectlybytheCityorforwardedontotheappropriategroup/organizationforfollowup.

Q Will the City follow up on every incident?

A TheintentoftheRzoneprocedureisthateachorganizationtakesresponsibilityforsituations

createdby;orthataffecttheirparticipantsincooperationwiththeCity.Insomecases,itwillbethecommunitygroupororganization.

Q What are some of the consequences that may occur?

A Eachreportwillbereviewedonanindividualbasis.Thenatureanddegreeofdisciplinewillbe

determinedbytheseverityofthesituation.

What is the Rzone?TheRzoneisanoperatingprocedurethatidentifiesacodeofconductwhichappliestoallCityofGuelphrecreationandculturalcentres,facilities,parksandprograms.TheRzoneprocedureenforcesasetofexpectationsaroundviolence,vandalismandinappropriatebehaviourforparticipantsandthegeneralpublic.

What does the Rzone mean?The“R”intheRzonelogostandsforRespect and Responsibility.Respect for Yourself; Respect for Others; and Responsibility for your Actions.Thelogowillserveasaremindertostaffandthepublicthattheoperatingprocedureisineffectandappliestoeveryone:coaches,parents,players,performers,audiencesandvisitors.

GoalThegoaloftheRzoneoperatingprocedureistoimprovethesafetyandleisureenvironmentinallCityofGuelphrecreationandculturalcentres,facilities,parksandprograms.Communityorganizations,residents,visitorsandCitystaffwillworktogethertopromoterespectandresponsibility,improvingthesafety,appearanceandenvironmentofourcommunity.
