IPC Media and Bauer Media Group

RESEARCH FOR DISTRIBUTION AND

PRODUCTION.

IPC Media is the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher, with more than 60

iconic media brands, IPC creates content for multiple platforms, across

print, online, mobile, tablets and events. 

They have three publishing divisions; IPC Connect, IPC Inspire and IPC

Southbank.

IPC MEDIA

IPC Connect, is a mass market women's division comprises famous women's

weeklies including Now, Chat and Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and TV & Satellite Week

and the goodtoknow network. This division is less appropriate to me as they deal with mainly women's magazines. 

IPC CONNECT

IPC’s men’s portfolio, IPC Inspire, has a wealth of leisure brands including Country

Life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mousebreaker and

NME.This would be the division best suited for my magazine as it already distributes

magazines such as NME and Uncut.

IPC INSPIRE

 

IPC Southbank is the upmarket women's division and comprises luxury fashion brands including Marie Claire

and InStyle, lifestyle brands including woman&home and Essentials and home interest brands including Ideal

Home, Living etc and housetohome. Like the IPC Connect, this division would be less appropriate to me as

they deal with mainly women's magazines.  

IPC SOUTHBANK

Bauer Media Group is one of the leading publishing and distributors in the UK, having a worldwide

circulation of magazine titles at about 38 million magazines a week. They would be a great distributor

for my magazine as they already publish and distribute magazines such as Kerrang!, MOJO, and Q.

BAUER MEDIA GROUP

The only limitation of using Bauer Media Group would be that Bauer caused controversy with its attempt to

unilaterally impose a new contract on all photographers and writers, which takes away their copyright and off-loads

liability for libel or copyright infringement from the publisher onto the contributor. 200 photographers and

writers from Q and Bauer's other music magazines, Kerrang! and MOJO were reported as refusing to work

under the new terms. This may be an issue if people think we are working with corrupt companies, but it does not seem an issue for the publicity of MOJO, Kerrang! or Q.

LIMITATION OF USING BAUER

Overall, I think the most suitable distribution group to use is IPC Inspire, because the magazines that they produce at the moment, such as NME best suit my

magazine, they have the same target audience as my magazine so they will understand the ethos that I am

trying to convey with my magazine.

I have chosen the IPC Inspire division of IPC because they handle music magazines such as Uncut or NME, whereas IPC Connect, or Southbank more deal with

women’s fashion magazines or home magazines such as Ideal Home or InStyle.
