ABSTRACTThe problem of sex bias in textbooks, particularly at
the elementary level, is treated in this report. Sexism is definedand discussed in relation to the current women's movement. Researchfindings, as well as examples taken-from various-texts, indicate-sexstereotyping and discrimination in instructional materials. A list ofavailable remedies and resources for those who want to challengesexism in education is included. It is recommended that, teachers takea more critical look at the materials they are currently using intheir classrooms in an attempt to identify implicit sex bias anddiscrimination. (Lie)
