SUBJECT: SUMMARY OF PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION FOR THE U.S. NUCLEARREGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) STAFF TO DESCRIBE ITS LICENSERENEWAL PROCESS
On April 28, 2005, the NRC staff conducted a public information session to describe the licenserenewal process to the public living near Palisades Nuclear Plant. The purpose of the meetingwas to provide information describing the license renewal process and how the public canparticipate. The meeting was held at the Lake Michigan College at South Haven. A list ofmeeting attendees is provided in Enclosure 1, and the meeting agenda is provided in Enclosure 2. A copy of the presentation slides used by the NRC staff are provided in Enclosure 3.
The NRC staff presented slides describing the NRC’s license renewal process and how thepublic can participate in the process. The staff also answered questions from members of thepublic. Some of these questions related to general plant operations, independent spent fuelstorage installation (ISFSI), NRC’s oversight responsibilities, and tentative schedule for thelicense renewal environmental review public meetings.
